The car journey on the way to school was tiring and tedious yet Patton didn't want it to ever end because that would mean that he would be forced to finally face the realisation that he actually had to go to to school. In all other situations, Patton loved meeting new people and making new friends but school was a whole different story.

At Primary School, Patton was often teased and bullied for one reason or another and he absolutely hated it. Every day, he would come home in floods of tears and absolutely dread the next day when the cycle would repeat itself all over again. His mum always attempted to comfort him and encouraged him to tell a teacher but he was too scared what might happen if he did and being the kind child he was, he didn't want to get anyone in trouble so just stayed quiet and allowed it to happen, which was the biggest mistake of his life and one of his biggest regrets. It was always the same two boys who bullied him every day: Dec Mentira and Virgil Hammersmith. (Don't judge the surnames okay. I'm tired). Each day they would tell him how useless and worthless and pathetic and annoying and weird he was and would occasionally beat him up, creating bruises and cuts all over his body. It was mainly Dec who bullied him but since Virgil was Dec's best friend, he occasionally joined in too, making Patton feel like a complete and utter piece of trash. No one at school knew about it because Dec and Virgil insured that it would always happen in the quietest places and Patton didn't have many friends to tell because people found him too clingy and weird. So he was forced to suffer in silence until he got home where he could finally just curl up into a ball and cry, releasing all of his emotions that were previously bottled up. Fortunately, Virgil and Dec were both going to a different school than Patton so he wouldn't have to deal with them but this didn't stop his worries and nerves that someone else would bully him.

Throughout the whole car journey, tiny butterflies floated around Patton's stomach but not the good kind you get when you feel in love and head over heels for someone but the bad kind you get when you feel incredibly nervous or worried. The kind that gives you a stomach ache and makes you feel incredibly ill. That kind. The kind that Patton was currently experiencing.

Patton's mum attempted to give him a few word of encouragement during the car ride but for the majority of it, everyone sat in an awkward silence whilst the car radio played, Patton staring outside the window at the picturesque countryside they were driving through.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the car journey came to stop right outside Patton's new school and Remy's current school. Without hesitation, Remy immediately swung the car door open and jumped out.

"Awww" His mum pouted. "Aren't you gonna give me a goodbye kiss?" Leaning outside the car window, she puckered her lips to give Remy a big, sloppy kiss but Remy quickly dodged it.

"Mum, not in public. You're embarrassing me" Remy gritted his teeth.

"Sorry sweetheart. Love you. Have a good day at school" She smiled sweetly, raising her voice in order to embarrass her son ever more. For some reason, mothers usually find some small joy in embarrassing their children.

"Yeah yeah whatever" Remy muttered before quickly finding his large group of friends and walking with them.

"Teenagers. What are they like?" His mum chuckled before turning around to see Patton slouched in his seat, his head hung low. "Are you not getting out?" She asked. Patton shook his head. "Why not?"

"I don't want to go. I'm scared about what the other kids will think of me. What if I don't have any friends? What if I get bullied again?" He was somehow able to prevent the tears that were rapidly gathering his eyes from streaming down his face.

"Oh sweetheart, come here" His mum slowly opened her arms and Patton buried his head in her chest as her warm arms wrapped around his body and her hands soothingly rubbed his back. "No one's going to bully you, I promise. People aren't as childish at Secondary School. Plus, there are loads more people here so I'm sure you'll find someone just like you who you could be friends with. And those two boys who bullied you are at a different school aren't they?" Patton slowly nodded his head. "See? But hey, if you really don't like it, send me a text and I'll come and pick you up. Okay?" Once again Patton nodded but this time it was a quicker nod. "Love you" And with that, his mother placed a soft kiss on his forehead, immediately bringing warmth to both Patton's cheeks and heart.

"Love you too" Patton smiled as he grabbed his bag and swung it over his shoulder. "Bye mum"

"Bye sweetheart. Have a nice day. Text me if anything's wrong yeah?"

"Yep. Bye. Love you" Patton carefully got out of the car, shutting the door behind him and blowing his mum one final goodbye kiss. As soon as she was certain that he was okay, his mum quickly drove off ready to go to work. Patton stood in front of the tall building looming over him with a large red sign reading "Sanders' Secondary School" slapped onto it. Taking in a deep breath, Patton slowly approached his new school, filled with both joy and dread.
