Patton felt sweat start to build up on his palms and forehead as he started to shake slightly out of his control. This was it. This was going to be the end of him. All he had avoided was coming back to him. He desperately wanted to run. Run to the comfort of his home. Run into his mum's warm, loving arms. Just run away from this place, from his inevitable doom. However, he didn't get a chance to because not long after, maybe in the space of a few seconds, his name was called right after Virgil's.

At that moment, he felt his breath get stuck in his throat and he couldn't help but gulp. This was worse than he could have imagined. Not only did he have to be in the same class as Virgil but he was forced to sit next to him. Letting out a shaky breath, he nervously made his way inside, his head hung low like a guilty child, yet he felt more fear and worry than guilt. He slowly made his way over to his seat and took out all of his stationary, including his dog themed pencil case. His eyes refused to meet Virgil's as they stayed fixed on his desk, not knowing that Virgil was getting out a cat themed pencil case and that Virgil wasn't actually as bad as he thought.

Soon he heard a small, awkward cough from beside him and Virgil's voice spoke up. However, it seemed a lot quieter and more anxious than he had remembered. "I like your pencil case" He said awkwardly.

"Thanks..." Patton replied just as awkwardly, his eyes still refusing to meet Virgil's.

"I'm assuming you still like dogs then huh?" Virgil asked with a small smile, trying to make conversation with and be nice to Patton.

"Yep. They're still my favourite animals. What about you?"

"I'm more of a cat person myself. But I guess that's because I am practically a cat" He joked and Patton was unable to stifle a small giggle.

He finally decided to look up at Virgil and as soon as their eyes met, something changed. Suddenly, all of Patton's fears and worries vanished as he gazed into Virgil's big, brown, sparkling eyes. He didn't seem like the malicious bully Patton grew up with. This guy seemed a lot kinder and more gentle and like a genuinely nice guy.

"Woah you're gorgeous" Patton mumbled, not realising that he was speaking out loud.

A light pink blush tinted Virgil's cheeks, although he had to double check that he was hearing correctly. "What was that?" He asked.

"Nothing" Patton said quickly, his face turning bright red.

Virgil giggled. "You're so cute. Oh and I'm sorry about what I did to you in Primary School"  He looked down shamefully.

"It's fine" Patton lied. Of course it wasn't fine. Virgil and his horrible, manipulative friend Dec were the reason he ran home and cried everyday. They were the reason he despised school. They were the reason he was so insecure. But yet he still stayed silent and forced himself not to tell Virgil the truth, not wanting to make a scene. Not wanting to upset or even anger Virgil.

"No it's not. I made you feel awful and I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone as innocent as you, or anyone at all"

Patton gave him a confused look. "You didn't?"

Virgil shook his head. "Of course not. I hate hurting people. Dec kinda forced me into it and said he wouldn't be my friend if I didn't. Why I didn't just leave him is beyond me"

"You were scared. You didn't want to loose your only friend and be a loner like me. I get that. And I forgive you" Patton gave him a small, reassuring smile.

"You do? How?" Virgil gave him a confused look.

"Because I can tell that you're genuinely sorry and you actually seem like a really nice person. Plus you deserve as much of a chance as everyone else"

"Thanks" Virgil returned Patton's small smile. "So now that the past is behind us, do you wanna maybe be friends?" He asked nervously, fiddling with the ends of his hoodie

Patton nodded enthusiastically. "I'd love to!"
