so yeah this one is basically like stuff that goes wrong on your wedding day oops

longer A/N at the end :)

Calum:

"Y/N, come out of there, please!" You roll your eyes as your best friend and maid of honour pounds on the bathroom door for the hundredth time. You shake your head, even though you know she can't see you, and grab another wad of tissues to dry your tears with. "At least tell me what's wrong," she pleads.

"I don't know," you whimper truthfully. "I just don't want to go out there." It's strange how you've wanted to marry Calum for so long, how you've both put so much time and money and effort into planning this wedding, and now that the day has finally arrived, you can't even go through with it. It's nothing against Calum - you do love him, you know you do. You're just concerned that you're not the best person for him. He's such an amazing and talented person, and sometimes you feel like you're just you and that that isn't enough. What if you get married and then every day for the rest of his life, he has to wake up thinking about how he could have done so much better? No. You can't do that to him. Or yourself.

The loud voices outside the door quieten to whispers until you hear your name being called yet again - only this time, it's Calum's voice pleading with you. "Y/N, I know you probably don't want me to come in because it would be bad luck for me to see you or whatever, but please, just tell me what's going on."

"Go away, Calum," you beg, even though you know that it's useless - there's no way he's going to leave you in here so easily.

"Y\N," he says again. "What's wrong? Why don't you want to come out?"

You sigh, knowing that you're going to have to tell him sooner or later. Standing up, you unlock the door. "I can't hold you back, Cal. You deserve better than that, than me," you tell him, avoiding eye contact before you quickly slam the door . . . only, it won't shut. When you look down, you realise Calum's shoe is jammed in the doorframe, preventing you from closing the door. Reluctantly, you step back, although you're careful to keep your eyes trained on the ground.

"You said this the first time I left for tour after we started dating, you know," he reminds you after a beat of silent. You shrug - you were terrified that he would find someone else, someone perfect for him, only to remember you were waiting at home. Even though he constantly reminded you that you were the only person he wanted, you still hated the thought of him worrying about you on the other side of the world, the way you always worried about him. Surely getting married would only make those feelings worse?

When you don't answer, Calum reaches out his hand to lift your chin, forcing your gaze to merge with his. "I know you may never believe me, no matter how often I try to tell you this, but you are the only person I want, and you are the only person I will ever want. I hate that you have no faith in yourself, but I wanna be there for you, officially, every day for the rest of my life to tell you how perfect you are."

Your heart swells at his words, but your hands are still shaking. "What if you find someone better than me, Calum?"

"Y/N, listen to me," he instructs, and you oblige. "There's probably always going to be someone better at something than you. There might be someone smarter, someone funnier, someone more confident-"

Your heart sinks. "I'm not sure how this is supposed to help me," you interject, and he smiles sheepishly.

"Right, well my point is that, you might not be the best at some things, but you'll always be best suited to me, and I'm never going to find anyone as amazing as you," he concludes, grinning proudly.
