A lot of people have ZERO clues about what that actual meaning of the Series Title is all about, aka what it means...So, here ya go... 

The title of the programme comes from a dialect expression from some parts of Northern England,

"there's nowt so queer as folk", 

meaning "there's nothing as strange as people"; 

which is a word play on the modern-day English synonym of,

"queer" in meaning and FULL reference to the word, homosexual.

'Cause this unfair, 'Play By The Book set of Societal Rules' he has been flying blind to follow for his Son & his Wife, and CONSTANTLY and DAILY dealing with, 

HER insane drive to Success!

Add to this, her easy ability to:

shove and then to lock away her 'supposedly Best Friend' by FORCING Justin to GO against his NATURE, and choose, between HER & their Child, OR? 

The LOVE of his young life, 

and stay swimming in a Toxic pool of a non-committed faux Relationship; YET being allowed to BE himself; an out and PROUD Gay young man; 

OR to be FORCED FULLY back inside of the Closet he had once dwelt in, due to living under the roof of a die hard homophobic sperm donor; YET, his son would NOT be adopted off (in a closed Adoption) and he would be a HUGE part of his baby's life, UNLIKE Brian who was a 'every now and then' Dad to Gus, his own son.

For the life and well being, and the sake of his then soon to be born Son, 

BRAVELY, Justin took a CHANCE in his Life...stepping away from, and voluntarily going back inside of that glass closet of ALL he was against! 

The lies, the FALSENESS of a having a LEGAL BEARD and soon to be, ready made Family, to protect the upper crust's Heterosexual Family Image.

Back THEN, and since he could remember, THAT ONE person he THOUGHT he knew and he'd even catch a Grenade For; 

his 'so called' BEST Friend Daphne then 'Chanders';and after (due to HIS Mother's NY Family Connections on HER side) Justin had thrown away ANY and ALL chances of EVER being with Brian.

*his ONE True Love*

And BOTH Brian & Justin had followed HER wishes and Rules about them and their 'friendship, to the tee.
