Chapter 24

Jace's P.O.V

He's won. I can't believe it. I guess I wasn't as strong as I thought I was. I need a stele to heal me, but I don't think that will do much good because the wound is really deep. I thought about Clary before darkness engulfed me.

Clary's P.O.V

After I killed Valentine (I refuse to call him my father now), I went back and fought more demons. Alec woke up shortly after that and is now fighting with us. I'm worried about Jace because I don't see him anywhere. Whatever. He can take of himself, even though he thinks I can't take care of myself. As I was cutting off another demon's head, the remaining ones retreated back into the dark forest. That's strange. Maybe they knew that they couldn't win.

I glanced back and the other Shadowhunters were looking around in confusion. I walked up to Izzy and asked, "Whats going on? Why did the demons retreat?"

"I don't know. It looks like all the other Shadowhunters are as clueless as we are," she responded. "Have you seen Jace? Alec and Magnus are over there." She pointed to her right, where they were making out.

"I haven't seen him for a while. Where is he? I'm actually worried now. Come to think of it, I don't see Sebastian either. I hate him with all my heart. Do you think they are fighting each other?"

"Could be, but why isn't he back yet? He left a while ago." As Izzy said that I shut my eyes and hoped for the best. Jace is not dead. Jace is not dead. He has to be not dead. I need him.

"Should we make a team of the best Shadowhunters and go to the forest to look for him? That's the only place he would be."

"That's a good idea Clary. I'll tell Alec to round them up, after all, he is the head of the Institute. Then the weaker Shadowhunters can go through a portal that Magnus is going to make."

~On the Forest Mission~

We walked for a long time. I was thinking about Jace. Was it my fault that he is missing? Maybe if we had fought Valentine together he wouldn't be gone right now. I hope he is ok.

We came to a large clearing and there were visible footprints there. "I think he was here!" I exclaimed excitedly. Then, I saw the blood.

Izzy saw it too. "It could be Sebastian's blood. Where are the both of them then?"

"Then why is the blood red?" I asked, my voice breaking. "Sebastian's blood is black. When we were dating he told me his blood was black, but he didn't know why. That is Jace's blood."

"Do you think he is dead?" I whispered, tears pooling in my eyes.

Alec came forward, "He can't be. Jace is a strong Shadowhunter. Plus, there isn't a body so I don't think he is dead. I would've felt him get stabbed or something."

"Well, you were knocked out for quite a while, so maybe he got in injured while you were passed out," Izzy said.

"Then where is he?" I asked desperately.

"I don't know," Alec replied.
