Chapter 15
Caleb's POV:
For the whole dinner, Toews and Jules were flirting. It was subtle but I could tell when she was flirting and it was extremely noticeable when Jonathan was flirting.
"So how was life before the NHL?" Corey asked her. She took a sip of her Heineken and smiled.
"It was just my mom, step dad and me. This jackass was a year older than me so in grade eleven when he got signed I was still too young because I have a late birthday. So I was a loser for most of my grade eleven year."
"You were a loser?" Patrick laughed.
"Yes. Hockey is my one true love. I didn't eat in the cafe because the hockey girls didn't like me."
"Why not?" Jonathan asked.
"Because I was on the boys team. I was better than all of them and they hated it. Oh well. I still came out better." She smirked. Finally the waitress came to take our order.
"What can I get you all?" She asked.
"I will have the club house on whole wheat with a garden salad." I said.
"I will have the tri-tip steak. Rare please."
"I will have the same." Jonathan said.
"I will take the grilled chicken panini." Patrick smiled. We all watched Juliet look through the menu.
"Uhm...uh...I'm...okay..."She said closing the menu.
"You don't want anything?" The waitress asked surprised.
"Uh...no...I'm good." She said.
"I'll give you some time." She smiled. Once she left Juliet looked away.
"Demon why didn't you get anything?" I asked.
"Because I can't afford this place." She said.
"I'm not like you guys. I played my first NHL game tonight. I don't have the money to order a sixty dollar sandwich or a...two hundred dollar steak. I will make something at home." She said.
"We could have paid for you, Juliet." Toews said.
"I told you I would buy anything you needed." I sighed.
"Yea the essentials. This is not money well spent. It's a waste." She denied.
"Nonsense." Toews said. Buddy, I was paying for her. A man in a tuxedo came to our table. He had slicked back brown hair and he smiled down at gentlemen.
"Good evening gentlemen and lady. Wonderful game tonight." He said.
"Thank you." We all said.
"I am the owner Kaidan McGraw. You are Juliet McDavid, yes? Opening goal? First NHL goal on your first shift?" He asked.
"Uhm...yes...t-that was me." She nodded.
"I understand the situation. You aren't the first rookie to walk in here. Why even James Van Reimsdyk came in with no money. We support the Leafs and tonight your meal is on us." He said proudly.
"That is so generous! I couldn't accept, that is too generous." She said.
"Don't be silly. It is on us. May I suggest our special? It is breaded Halibut with our new salad. With grilled chicken." He said.
"Sure. Thank you so much." She said. He smiled and walked away.
"See this is the life of a super star, rookie." Toews smirked and she smiled.
----
At the end of the night Juliet and Jonathan exchanged contact information. I didn't enjoy that but we said good bye and drove home in silence.
"He gave me his number, Cale! Can you believe it! My idol Jonathan Toews gave me his phone number. He said he would take me out to dinner our next game!" She gushed.
"Cool." I said sarcastically.
"What is your problem? I saw you glaring at him all dinner." She growled.
"Nothing, Juliet." I said pulling into the garage.
"Well something is wrong. You have been a total ass our whole vacation." She growled getting out. I rolled my eyes as we got into the elevator.
"Wow. Nothing as usual." She sighed. She went in slamming her bedroom door as I pulled out my phone and texted Clara. She came in about ten minutes.
I changed in sweatpants and walked around with no shirt because Juliet was confined to her room.
"Caleb. I thought you had forgotten me." She smiled.
"Of course not, Clara." I smiled fakingly as I opened the door. I pulled her in harshly as I shut the door. She wore a tight black dress that zipped up on the side. It wasn't as great as Juliet's dress, but it would have to suffice.
I closed my bedroom door and began unzipping her dress.
Juliet's POV:
I was eating cereal in the morning when I heard Caleb's door open.
"Good morning asshole." I said.
"Uhm...who are you?" Some girl asked. She was blonde and her hair was messy.
"Juliet... Who are you?" I asked.
"Clara." I shook my head and scoffed.
"So you are the amazing Clara huh?" I asked.
"Yes...Do you live here?" She asked.
"I do. Caleb is helping me get on my feet."
"Why? Do you have a drinking problem or drug problem?" She asked. Did she not watch tv? I was all over CP24.
"No...I am the new rookie on the Leafs. I'm the only female in NHL history." I said.
"I hate hockey." She said her eyes narrowing.
"Nice...well goodbye." I said. She nodded and walked out and I placed my bowl in the sink.
"Caleb!" I yelled. I marched down to his room and banged on the door.
"Seriously!? You bring a slut to our house!?" I yelled. He shot open the door his hair dripping wet and his towel hung dangerously low on his hips. He didn't look pleased.
"Last time I checked, Juliet. This was my house. I can have over whoever I want." He said rudely. This distracted me from his glorious muscular torso.
"Excuse me!? We are house mates. I have some rights."
"What rights!? This is my house. You are living with me! Not the other way around!" He yelled.
"Well maybe I should get my own place!" I fumed.
"Maybe you should!" He yelled back. I froze. His eyes widened.
"Jules I didn't mean that." He said reaching out to me.
"Don't touch me..."I said. Caleb had never yelled at me, never been so rude...To do this...it hit me hard.
I went into my room and sat on my bed. I reached in my bag and pulled out my white stuffed bunny. He was old and tattered but I wouldn't part with him. I clutched him to my chest as I rolled over and cried.
