Chapter 4
Caleb's POV:
Training camp was at the master card centre. The rookies and other guys came to the rink.
"Alright I will see you on the ice." I said to Juliet. She had a separate change room. I walked in and noticed everyone's tan.
"Well well, let's hope we remember how to skate." I laughed.
"So funny Andrews." Kadri laughed as did everyone else. Some rookies talked to us younger guys.
"So who is this girl we got?" Bozak asked.
"She is my best friend from high school-" I began but was immediately cut off.
"Ooooooo" They all said staring at me. I laughed shaking my head.
"Anyways she is really good. Too rough for girls." I said.
"Well we shall see." Gardiner said walking past me. I shoved on my jersey and walked out to the ice. The guys were watching Juliet do some dekeing through a pool of pucks.
"Stop drooling boys. She has standards." I said stepping out on the ice. She smiled once she saw me and came over.
"Cale I am so nervous. I don't think I can do it." She said.
"Demon, calm down. You will do fine." I assured taping her shoulder.
One of the assistant coaches blew the whistle and we skated over to our coach Randy Carlyle.
"Welcome to training camp boys. These next three days will be gruelling. We will be making cuts each day. You go down to the Marlies and you come back up next year. Be creative make us see why we would take you." He explained. They drafted no goalies so it was only Bernier and I.
"Which net do you want?" He asked.
"I'll take this one." I said nodding to the farther one and flopping down my helmet. I skated away and began stretching in the crease. They began with some gruelling skating. Just by watching it I wanted to throw up. Everyone was dying. Even the guys already having a for sure spot.
Next we did some simple shooting drills. Juliet was in my end so I made sure her shot went in every time. She rolled her eyes at me and I just winked.
The practice continued on and finally when it was over my coach came over and stood by me.
"I know you are making her look good." He smiled.
"I'm sorry coach. I'm afraid I do not know what you are talking about." I lied.
"Don't bullshit me Andrews." He laughed.
"Don't worry about her. She's good and she will most likely make the cut." He assured.
"That's amazing coach. Thank you."
"Yea no problem."He smirked. He winked at me and skated away and I frowned confused.
"What was that about?" Juliet asked skating over to me.
"Oh nothing. Just talking." I shrugged.
"Oh. Well anyways. Stop making me look good, asshole." She said hitting me.
"Why? I want you to make the team."
"I know and I appreciate it but people know that you are purposely letting my shots in." She giggled.
"Andrews! Stop flirting and get in the net." Bernier yelled. I flopped down my mask as I would expect my face to be red. Juliet laughed and skated away.
I skated back to my net and finished off the rest of the practice.
