The door

That night Eva and I rode all night and for part of the day until I reached the stable in the canyon. While I was there I slept, ate and changed into the stealth suit Zuel gave me. I rented a stall out for Eva then headed off to the desert. I had taken a map from the library so I could find my way around the desert.

The desert was so much hotter than I had expected, I felt like I was melting with every step I took. But I couldn't let that stop me, I kept drinking my water to stay hydrated and fought through the heat. I had to do something, I had to help. I know Link wouldn't be happy to see me there, but I couldn't just sit at the castle and wait.

After what seemed like an eternity of walking on lava I finally reached a canyon entrance that looked like the entrance to the clans hideout. I stealthfully made my way up the long canyon. The entire time I wondered how anyone could walk up and down this place on a regular basis. I was almost at the entrance when I started to wonder why no one was trying to attack me or ambush me. I reached the cave entrance and cautiously walked in. It was so quiet and empty, something didn't feel right. I was starting to get nervous. Maybe they were right, I shouldn't be here, I should let the knights do their job.

No! I should be here, I need to be strong. I looked around, there were banana peels everywhere along with weapons just sitting on the ground. There were multiple hallways to go down through, I peeked through each of them when one caught my attention. It was a knights shield.... I made my way down that hallway. It was dark.. so dark I couldn't see in front of me. After a bit of bumping into walls and almost falling I saw light. I felt the wall so I could have some balance but quickly put my hand back on my side. The wall was wet and cold. I looked ahead and wiped my hand off. Once I reached the end of the hall my heart stopped.

I was looking down a balcony at a complete massacre. I felt disgusted at the scene. Knights and clan members both dead on the floor. Blood splattered everywhere, arrows and swords sticking out of corpses, I couldn't even see the floor because of how many bodies there were. A thought then crawled into my head, I looked down at my hand... it's was stained with blood. I felt sick. But I needed to snap out of it! I came here for my mother, my brother and Link. I looked around me at all the bodies but I couldn't make anyone out. I hopped off the balcony and tiptoed around all the corpses. I felt like I couldn't breath so I slid the mask from the suit down to my chin. I prayed I didn't find them here, maybe that way they were still alive. I just couldn't see any blond guys, everyone was drenched in so much blood.

I was feeling so many things, I was scared, scared I would never see anyone I cared about again. I was scared Link was dead, I was also mad. Mad at myself. I knew something bad was going to happen but I still let everyone go, and now they're all dead. My heart was also shattered. Link broke his promise of coming back to me. Luckily, his body wasn't here and neither was my mothers.

I kept walking through the bloody room until I heard footsteps coming from an open door. I panicked a bit, there was no where to hide. Wait! I threw myself onto the floor and pulled one of the corpses on top of me. It was Dane, one of Links friends. I couldn't think about that now. I kept my breathing to minimum and shut my eyes. It was a few set of footsteps, they were running. They were running up the stairs when I heard flesh being priced and a grunt, quickly followed by a thud.

"That was close." Someone said.

"Get back to the dungeon. Those prisoners aren't going to torture themselves."

"Yes sir."

As the footsteps faded and I quickly rolled the corpse off me and followed them down the stairs. I heard a door close from further down the hall. I reached the door and got my sword ready to attack.

I tried listening to the other side to get a good idea on how many people were in there, I could only hear two members and a few prisoners. I looked around for a window or something to sneak in through but I could only go through the door. I decided it'd be easier to use a bow for this occasion so I took that out. I placed my hand on the doorknob, my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest. I was sweating so much under the body-tight suite and my hands wouldn't stop shaking. But it was now or never.

I slid the mask back up above my nose, took a deep breath and slammed the door open. I quickly took out all the clan members I could see without thinking. There was four in total. All the prisoners stared at me confused. Most of them were knights from the mission and others were travelers. My eyes darted around the room looking for Link and my mother but neither were in the room.

"I told you Zelda would send someone to help!" A knight said. I looked to where the voice came from, it was Grayson, another one of Links friends. "Did the cadets finally finish training? How many of you are there??" I pulled the mask back down.

"Just me." I smiled.

"(Y/N)?? What the hell are you doing here??!" He shot up.

"Helping you guys escape." I walked over to the Yiga corpses looking for keys. I looked around the cells for some more familiar faces. "Where's Link?" I grabbed the keys from the waist of one of the dead guards.

"They took him down that hall a while earlier." I looked back at a dark hallway.

"What about my mom?" I started testing the keys trying to unlock the cells.

"I don't know."

"What do you mean you don't know?" I frowned as I tried to unlock the cell.

"She isn't here."

"How is she not here?? You guys picked her up right?!"

"Yes! But when they ambushed us. Link tried going after her, he was brought here a few days after us, he was acting weird. They put him in a different cell and he didn't talk to us. I'm sorry but no one knows where she is." I felt sick. I turned the key and the cell unlocked.

"Help everyone get out of here, I'm going to help Link."

"Be careful, there's more of them down there." I nodded and pulled the mask back up.

I couldn't help but fear the worse for my mother. I grabbed a candle from the wall and walked down the dark hallway with my sword in hand. I could hear the cells unlocking from behind me, but the further I went in the quieter they got. The hallway seemed endless, little light was in it. I tried lighting the candles on the wall I could get to. I felt myself getting nervous again, I didn't know what to expect when I opened the door at the end of the hall. I got closer and closer so I grabbed my bow again. I placed the candle on the floor and stood in front of the metal door. I was terrified to open the door. I couldn't hear what was going on, I didn't know what could be going on. But I couldn't stand there and just wonder, I had to go inside.

I took a deep breath. Its now or never.
