"Because I said so, okay?"
"No, Bea that's not how it works!"
"You liar! You lied, now you're telling me what's right and what isn't?"
"Bea, you know damn well that Jace and y-"
"You slut."
I stop midsentence, the interruption deeply disturbing me. This is my best friend we're looking at here.
The same girl I shared ice cream with, made fun of the losers in the cafeteria, tripped Leo Casters so hard that he permanently damaged his nose- and that's a shame cause he was a real charmer and had the looks too- and I know it all sounds mean but that's how we were. And we were good at it that way.
And one more thing: we were always TOGETHER in it.
And here she is, calling me a slut, refusing to even talk. But somehow she was talking; no, she wasn't talking, she was spitting poison.
Could I take this? "You're willing to risk our years of friendship for a boy that you were with for barely two weeks?"
"Yes. Yes, I am, and you are a terrible friend. Do you understand?" My lower lip quivers.
Then she scowls, and says;
"I hate you."
I wake up in the middle of the night, sweating, breathing heavily.
It was just a dream.
It was a terrible nightmare.
It was..
My phone sat beside me on my night stand, the screen lit up as I received a text.
At 12:17 in the morning. Huh.
I unlock my phone, and see that the text is from Drew.
I casually draw out a breath, and then almost choke when I realise:
Drew Chadwick. Drew Chadwick? Drew Chadwick!
"So heyyy I know it's late lol who am I kidding? Anyway, if you're still up maybe you wanna go get some coffee or Nando's or anything for that matter? Awaiting your reply. Sincerely, Drew xx."
What even.
I know, me and Drew have stopped hating each other lately since he's been hanging with us(i.e., Wes, myself, Bea, Charlie and Jack) and we pretty much sorted through all the misunderstandings but.
"Sure. Starbucks or Nando's at midnight. Great idea(note the sarcasm). Meet me at my place in 5-.-" I reply immediately, hustling out of bed.
I wash my face and apply my eyeliner, just in case or whatever.
I wear my denim shorts and a white sweatshirt. In a hurry, I slip into my black converse.
Just as I finish tiptoeing my way down the stairs, my phone vibrates inside my pockets.
"I'm here." And it's Drew.
"Me too." I hang up.
I open the front door and shut it, careful not to make any sound.
"Hey." I almost jump before I pester enough courage to turn around and find only Drew.
He's wearing a grey shirt, the kind that is actually a t-shirt but has buttons at the top. All three buttons are open, and he wears jeans and his hair is in a mighty mess.
I giggle.
"What?" He frowns a bit.
"It's just," I point to his hair. His looks at me quizzically, so I take a step towards him and set his hair down for him.
