Kaden's POV
"So Kaden, how has your father's death affect you?" asks the Psychiatrist.
"My life is now just an empty void that will never be filled again. Even Alice knows that I've been horribly depressed and that I even tried to take my one life a few times. If it wasn't for her I'd be with my dad right now. I can't even look at my favourite picture of me and my dad without crying. My dad really meant a lot to me and when I found out he died my heart just shattered. He was my hero. So as you can see his death has really affected me emotionally."
"And what about you Alice? How has your father's death affect you?"
"The exact same way it has affect my brother. Except I haven't tried to take my own life."
"Have any of you tried something like going to church to help cope with your father's death?"
"We've gone a few times, but we've mostly been reading bible verses online."
"Which ones Kaden?"
"Psalms 34:17-19, 55:22, and 23:4. 1 Peter 5:7, Isaiah 53:4, and Joshua 1:9."
"Those are some powerful scriptures. Which one has helped you out the most?"
"I'll let my sister answer that question first."
"Joshua 1:9 has really helped me a lot. At Joshua 1:9 it says, Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and strong. Do not be struck with terror or fear, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go."
"That is a very nice scripture and has a really deep meaning to it. I can see why it has helped you. Now it's your turn Kaden."
"Psalms 34:17-19 has really helped me through this tough and difficult time. Psalms 34:17-19 says, they cried out and Jehovah heard; he rescued them from all their distresses. Jehovah is close to the broken-hearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the hardships of the righteous ones, but Jehovah rescues him from them all."
"Wow! Those are some powerful verses and the two scriptures you two shared must really mean a lot to you."
"They do. Our dad showed them to us when he was depressed, which is why they mean a lot to us and are helping us through all of this."
"Is there anything else that you two have done to help cope with the loss of your father?"
"At school we talk to our friends, Aunt Tracy, teachers and the guidance counselor."
"Your friends must really like you."
"They do. They even stopped us from going on top of the school and ending our lives at the same time."
"Aren't those doors supposed to be locked?"
"Yes, but Kaden managed to pick the lock. And the exact moment Kaden opened the door, our friends Henry, Violet, Carter, and Drew called out to us to "stop." So we did. Kaden closed the door and we turned around to face our friends."
"That's when our friends started to tell us how much we meant to them and that our parents think the world of us, that they would be DEVASTATED if we killed ourselves. So we took a few deep breaths and walked away from the door. You see when Alice and I were depressed we forgot about everyone who cares about us and didn't really bother to talk to them for two months."
"Why'd you wait so long?"
"We were depressed. We didn't think anyone would want to talk to us. So we just hid our feelings. Which we shouldn't have done."
"Yeah, we really messed up there."
"But at least we patched that mistake up."
"Yeah, it may have taken us a couple of months to do so, but at least we did it before everything got out of hand."
"Sounds like you too learned an important lesson."
"Yes we did, right Kaden?"
"Absolutely. We learned that you should never be afraid to talk to someone about your feelings."
"Because if you hide your feelings from everyone who cares about you your actions will only lead to ruin. And then you've created a chemical reaction, and nobody wants that to happen."
"An important lesson to have learned. Good job Kaden and Alice!"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Now is there anything else you'd like to share with me?"
"I don't want to point fingers, but I'm pretty sure Kaden has something important that he'd like to share."
"Yes...I do. Alice can you please leave the room for a bit please? Because I don't want you to hear this."
"Whatever you have to say, I'm sure Alice can handle it. And I'm sure that she'd appreciate it if you shared everything that's hurting you right now. The more people you share your feelings with will help you not only build trust, but it'll help you heal faster."
"Kaden? Do you still want me to leave? If so I have problem with leaving for a few minutes."
"It will shock you, but Dr. Nickerson is right. So I'd like you to stay."
"Ok. But can both of you wait a couple of minutes? I need to use the bathroom."
"As do I."
