Ned slammed the door when he and Peter got home, turning to his husband who was still in the spidey suit, his hair messed up and a large gash cutting across his face.

"You could've died!" Ned said accusingly.

"Every hero dies, Ned! It's how their stories end! No- No heroic win, no happily ever after, they just get themselves killed in some stupid battle." Peter yelled in response, gripping his mask tightly in his right hand.

"But not you! You're not going to- you can't die like that! You're different, don't you get it? You can be careful and- and not die in a fucking fight like everyone before you!" Ned wasn't even angry, he was just scared of losing the person he cared about most.

"Every hero dies, Ned! Grow up! Tony did, Steve did, they all die in their stupid fights!"

"But not you! Not you." Ned's voice got quiet and Peter went silent. He sounded scared and it made Peter realize that maybe he was the one being irrational but he didn't know how.

"Why not? Why not me. I'm not special, Ned. I'm just me." Peter couldn't understand Ned's point of view. What made Peter special, in a world full of heroes who were all dying the same way?

There wasn't really an answer to that. Ned stared at the floor quietly. Peter eventually went and sat on the couch, sighing heavily. Ned soon joined him, leaning on his shoulder and closing his eyes.

"You're special to me."
