All the people around me are shivering because of what they heard. I know that wasn't thunder, but I have no idea what it was.
"Do you know what that was?" I ask Simon.
"No, but there is no way that was thunder. Thunder makes a boom sound, not a roar. Could have been a mammoth." He replies.
"Maybe, but I doubt it."
"Well, what do you think it was?"
"I-I don't know, but it was no mammoth."
"Can we continue?" A female asks. "I want to get this over with."
"Yes, we'll start with the rebel on the left." another guard says pointing at a man right next to me.
"Well, looks like I'm first," He says walking up to the block. "Well, at least I don't have to deal with whatever made that noise. For all I know, it could be a dragon."
"A dragon. Ha, they became extinct a long time ago." The guard bluntly said.
"Well, you never know now will you." The man says kneeling next to the block. "C'mon, can we hurry. We don't have all day."
"Yes please, let's continue," he says putting his free hand in the guy's upper back, placing his head on the block. He then looks at a big guy hiding in the shadows. He is holding a ginormous ax coated in blood. As he steps closer to the man on the block, the ax sways back and forth on his shoulder. The big guy stops about a foot away from the man on the block, then he takes his ax off of his shoulder and holds it with two hands. Then he brings the ax over his head, and almost in an instant, it comes down and cuts the guy's head clean off.
In the distance, a woman yells "You imperial bastards!"
"Next, the man from Leyawiin!" A guard yells pointing at me.
Again we hear a distant roar, but closer. Way closer.
"There it is again. Did you hear that?" A guard asks.
"I said, next prisoner!"
"Ok, to the block prisoner. Nice and easy."
I slowly walk up to the crimson block. When I eventually get there, a guard forces me to my knees and puts my head on the block. It smells like iron. The guy with the ax towers over me holding the ax. Now that I'm closer to him, I can see that he is blind in his left eye. I close my eyes so I don't have to watch the ax come down.
Then I hear someone shout "What in Oblivion is that!?"
I open my eyes just in time to see a dragon land on top of the tower behind the big guy. The dragon has spiky, black scales running down its entire body. The dragon then speaks "Strun, bah, qo." After that, a massive storm brews up above us.
"Hey Smith, Come on. The gods won't give us another chance! Let's go." Simon shouts at me.
I get up and start running with Simon. We run into the guards quarters and get us some chainmail armor and some weapons. After we get set up, we run out of the guards quarters and run towards the open exit. Even after getting safely out of the gate, we keep running, not knowing where it leads. All I know is that I'm not staying in a town with a dragon in the middle of it.
