Christopher stared at her from across the table, ignoring the food placed by Sylvia on his plate. Someone elbowed him, knocking him out of his trance.

It was Erick.

Next to him, the other DeLuca sibling had her attention fixed on him in the form of icy glares. This was not what he had expected when Erick said he wanted to celebrate.

Christopher wasn't even sure if there was any important event or occasion worth celebrating for.

Especially for someone in his tight situation.

Of course, his friend had took care to leave out details like how Rayna was looking at him over the chicken on her fork. It was as though she wanted to stab him over and over with it like he was a roasted suckling pig on Thanksgiving.

The thought made him feel cold all over.

He sighed and stabbed at a piece of pineapple on his plate, shoving it into his mouth. As he chewed, his eyes returned back to eyeing the silent girl seated at the head of the table.

Her food was untouched as well. Unlike him, Anaeya's eyes were downcast. She shifted in uneaseness, probably sensing him watching her every move.

Christopher swallowed, feeling guilty for what they had done a few nights ago. It was inexcusable. He felt as though he had taken advantage of her emotions just for a few normal moments with her.

But those moments didn't last.

Was that why she was avoiding his eyes?

As far as he knew, all of his plans had washed down the drain the moment Anaeya said the words. His friends were distraught when he broke the news but a seemingly unreasonable feeling kept him tethered to Miami.

A hand came down banging on the table, jolting everyone in their seats. Joel exchanged a nervous glance with Erick as Rayna narrowed her eyes at Christopher, a devious smile on her face.

"My chancletas.. oops, that slipped," she said, sarcastic. Christopher quirked an eyebrow. "I mean to say that my chimichangas are delicious." She took some and put them on Erick's plate, her eyes still fixed on Christopher. "Yum yum."

Rayna also added some platanas and stir-fried vegetables. The boy seemed horrified by the pile forming on his plate as he kept on reminding Rayna that he was already full but the girl was deaf to his protests.

Joel even had to steal the last taco before Rayna could get to it.

No one talked after that. The silence was matched with the constant clattering of fork and spoon on ceramic plates as Dayana struggled to use them.

"Boy, I miss chicken," Sylvia said, attempting small talk. Everyone knew she was a vegetarian. She glanced around awkwardly as she scooped for more rice. Then, she pouted at Rayna, "If only I could bring you back with me to New York, Jolene would love you."
