"I have news," Clara stated, looking up from her phone. "The producers want to film the next music video in Puerto Rico. And we're leaving tomorrow night."
"What?" Richard said, shocked. All of them were. Except Christopher, who had his head down. "But Ana.. Chris still hav-"
"I'm sorry," Clara apologized, her hand on Christopher's shoulder. She squeezed, trying to show support. "Ana will have to wait. Chris, I would do anything to stall this trip but these are the producers' orders. They want the video filmed immediately." She tried to catch his eye, waiting for a reply.
Instead, it was Joel who spoke. "That's impossible." Everyone whirled, their gaze on him. He shoved his hands into his pocket and cleared his throat. "I lost my passport. The producers can't film without me."
Zabdiel scoffed, knowing well that he usually was the one forgetting his documents.
"Joel? Are you sure?"
The boy pursed his lips and gave a firm nod. "I'm certain. It will take weeks to make a new one."
Clara smiled, shaking her head. "Well, I have a friend who co-"
"No!" Erick said out of nowhere, his voice raised. He coughed into his fist and said, "Nada! I have to attend Thiago's birthday party. I'm his favourite tio."
"That's not until next year!"
"Oh," Erick realized, looking away. "I mean, a quinceañera?" Clara's eyebrow shot up her hairline. Erick smiled sheepishly and explained, "Mi prima."
But his innocent look didn't fool Clara.
"Aaliyah's birthday is next week," Richard added. Clara shot him a warning look. "For real. I'm saying the truth. Yocelyn wants to throw a mermaid concept birthday party. She needs a mermaid mascot and Yashua refused to."
Clara turned to Zabdiel next to her, expecting him to say something ridiculous like the rest of them. He shrugged, playing along. "Mi mama dijo que habrá un huracán en Puerto Rico."
"Fine," she said, her hands lifted in defeat. "These are the most ridiculous excuses I have ever heard. I will try my best to stall the producers. You have one week and then we will leave."
All four boys cheered. Christopher smiled in return, giving Clara an appreciative nod. She shook her head, rolling her eyes. "Thank your silly friends. I can't believe I forgot that I was in charged of little boys in disguise as adults."
"Gracias, mama Clara," Richard teased.
"And Joel," she said. The boy froze. "I need to speak to you alone later. We need to make you a new passport as soon as possible."
"Oh," he smiled, embarassed. "That's not necessary. I just.. eh.." She facepalmed and waved them off, leaving them in the hallway. The boys stared at each other in silence.
