Chapter Two

Klein leads me to a meadow filled with Wild Boars and Dire Wolves, which are exactly what they sound like, and shuffles his feet until he's in a fighting stance.

"You use a sword skill when you feel it inside, I dunno, like a rush of energy? And then you use it by swinging the sword obviously," he explains, and mid-sentence, his sword starts glowing a red-white color. After a few seconds, the blade looks fiery hot. Then, he lunges forward, leaving me in the dust, and before I can realize it, he's killed two Wild Boars already. I stand there, blinking, trying to process his explanation, "you think you can do it?" I jump when his voice comes from behind me, spinning around.

"Uh, yeah!" I pump my fist determinedly and take my sword from my sheath. It's blade and golden handle shimmers in the daylight, and I see Klein's astonished face reflected in the metal bits, and I hold back a small giggle as I change my footing, one foot shoulders length behind the other and facing the direction to where I would be facing, and I straighten my back, holding the sword in front of my face, which is tilted to the side. I hold a hand out behind me, grateful for the three years of sword fighting classes plus the special agent training I had taken. After standing in that stance, I focus on a Dire Wolf prowling the field ahead of me. I feel a strange yet welcoming surge rising from my chest, and I watch as the blade of my rapier glows a brilliant coral color.

I take the chance when I'm nearly overwhelmed by the adrenaline spreading through me, and dart forward, thrusting the tip of the sword into the hide of the Dire Wolf. Only then do I realize it's four levels above me, and I leap over it, twisting mid-air and jabbing at the monster as it whips in the other direction, giving me the flanking advantage. Stabbing it multiple times, it finally whines, then swells until it looks like popcorn, and it explodes into the shards Kirito had turned into.

That's a weird feature. Why would they make teleporting and dying look so similar?

I stand there, panting, and holding my sword in front of me for a few moments, when the small screen pops up in front of me, telling me the items and experience. My eyes widen when I see the two-hundred-fifty five Col it had dropped, along with two minor healing potions.

"How did you move that fast?" I whip around to see Klein standing there, amazement shining in his eyes. "You were just a blur, and before I knew it, that thing was dead!" he waves his arms around, emphasizing the fact of him being utterly astonished. I gaze at him questioningly, then open my inventory for a moment to check in my skill section. My eyes widen nearly three times as much as they had before when I see how fast and strong my sword skill had become. My hand shaking enormously, I tap to see the full status and swipe the screen over to Klein so he can see.

"I guess that's why?" I mumble, completely shocked.

"S-specular Cross, power level: one hundred ninety, speed level: three hundred! What? Kirito's not even that fast, and he's really good at fighting!" He stutters, hovering his finger over the number, and I break out in laughter at his pale, blank face.

"That's probably because he uses a Broad-sword. I use a Rapier, and if you look here," I pause, pointing under the swords name, which is Destiny's Story, to the buffs. In a small text, it states, The user is granted one hundred speed, along with ninety-nine power points.

"Where'd you get such a sword? That's way better than mine!" Klein, who is now glancing from the screen to me, then back to the screen, smiles in astonishment.

"Uh," I mutter, thinking back to the name of the blacksmith shop. "I think it was in the town of beginnings, the first door to your right." I watch Klein's confident smile turn to one of remorse.

"Agh! And I looked into the window, too!" He slaps his forehead with his palm, making me giggle.

"Well, I'd better be logging out now." I smile to Klein, but before I can log out, he stops me.

"Wait!.... You wanna friend me? Then we can level, and hang out." He offers, resting a hand behind his head.

"Sure. Then we could move up the floors faster," I pause, swiping with my hand to the 'friend' section, and press Klein's name tag and a blue button appears in front of me. I click it, and a screen pops up next to Klein. He taps the 'accept' tab, and on my screen, a small message saying 'Friend Added' overlays the other. I exit the banner, then wave to Klein, "bye, Klein."

"See ya around, Skylar." He waves back, and I press the logout button. My vision blurs to white, and after a moment, I find myself lying in my bed, staring at the ceiling with a screen of glass covering my eyes. I smile, pulling off the helmet, and resting it gently on the table next to me. I swing my legs over the side of the bed, staggering to my feet, and walking over to the kitchen. I fix myself some food and watch my favorite show before I wrap myself in a warm blanket on my bed, smiling to myself as I turn off the lamp on my nightstand. Closing my eyes, I ready myself for the fun weekend ahead of me.

Author Note: Sorry if this chapter seemed short. By the way, this is my first story I've written, so sorry if it stinks. :)
