I wake up with a yawn, stretching my arms as I sit up in bed. The thought of last night pops into mind, and I decide I'll tell Klein when I get to see him next. After munching on some breakfast, I sling the backpack over my shoulder, walking out the door, my mom not questioning anything. On the bus, I flip through a comic book I had bought from the local bookstore, smiling as one of the heroines fights off the big boss one on one, and wins with one blow to the weak spot. When I hop off the bus, I fold my comic book and put it into my backpack, walking through the halls of the school. I meet some of my other friends who I haven't seen since the first year of SAO, some of them looking completely different. They smile and wave when I just smile at them, walking to my locker. I twist in the code, pushing my backpack up into the locker, having to stand on my toes since I got a top locker. Hanging it on the hook, I start taking out some books along with my computer, and some folders, then close the door, turning to walk to my first class. I nearly jump ten feet when someone taps me on the shoulder, half-expecting it to be the man from yesterday. But instead, it's a man I want to see. Klein stands there, wearing the uniform with a tie and everything.
"Hey, Skylar! I finally get to come here!" He says with a wave, and I smile.
"That's great! You're looking much better already!" I exclaimed, clutching my books to my chest to make sure one doesn't slip out of my grasp. "What classes do you have?" I feel like an actual school girl when I say that but dismiss it anyway.
"Um, I have..." he pauses, pulling out a schedule. "I have calculus, English? Chemistry, and then language arts." He reads off, sighing. "Man, why do we have to go back to school again?"
"Probably because we haven't really been using our math, science, or other languages when playing Sword Art for two years straight." I point out. "But anyway, it sounds like we have at least two classes together."
"That's great! Well, it feels weird saying this again, but I should get going since my first class is going to start soon." Klein sighs, making me giggle.
"Okay, but you're making yourself sound old." I tease, turning around.
"Wait, what? Huh? How--" Klein's cut off by the door I'm closing as I hold in giggles. I sit down at my desk, organizing my folders and notebooks to fit on the small desk. The bell rings a few minutes after I read a few pages of my comic and the teacher walks in, greeting this class to Language Arts. I take notes on almost everything he says, making sure not to miss a detail that might be important. Classes seem to fly by today, whether seeing Klein made me feel better or not and as soon as I know it, I'm walking back to my locker, swirling the knob until the same click rings from behind the metal, opening the box. Slipping my notebooks and folders in order, I take out the ones that I need for homework and then close my locker. I jump when I see Klein standing next to me, grinning. "Hah! Payback!" He teases, poking my shoulder.
"Whatever!" I mutter, smiling myself. "Are you going back to the hospital? Or are you living on your own now?"
"I'm back at my house, now." He answers, still smiling.
"Nice! So no more training wheels?" I giggle, and he mutters this time, scratching the back of his head.
"You had those too." He grumbles, and I think back to where I had fallen that one time, and I needed a wheelchair just because the doctors didn't want to keep going back and forth with crutches.
"True true. But you had them longer!" I poke at him, and by this time we're both walking to the bus stop, laughing at stupid jokes Klein cracks. I have to get off a little later, but it turns out our houses are actually pretty close, being only a few blocks away. I decide to get off at the same time as Klein does, so we have a little more time to talk. "So, I'd like to tell you something that happened, so you can watch out for it."
