My bell rang over and over. It was 3:21am and whoever was doing this shit was about to get their ass cursed out. I slid on my slippers and took my time downstairs. I was home alone and not expecting visitors. Ambrosine was back at her house, so I made sure to travel downstairs will my gun. Not too many people knew I was back in town, and everyone knows to call first. I crept down the steps and held my breath as I slowly approached to door to stare in the peephole.
This shit was so sudden I didn't even think to look at the camera in front of my door. I sucked my teeth the moment I saw Natalie standing there with this look on her face as she held onto our daughter as if she were some kind of shield for her.
" Natalie, what the fuck man? Why do you have Nova outside so late? Got me carrying my gun and shit because I'm not expecting it to me y'all." My child was fully awake and had glossy eyes.
"I'm so sorry it's sudden my phone died, and I need to handle something. She was also crying for you so I decided to bring her over. It was nothing I could do if she kept crying for her dad." She sighed. I couldn't get over the fact that she looked out of it. Her eyes even had dark circles formed underneath.
" Alright, I'll take her but why didn't you call? Who leaves their crib with a dead phone and baby? You got into it with you're peoples again?" I scanned the street and didn't see her car. The streets weren't no place for a lady nor a baby around this time. I made a mental note to check my camera to see if a cab dropped her off.
" And where's your car?" I looked around outside once more before closing the door to make sure she wasn't followed by any creeps in the night. I only saw my car parked on the street along with my neighbors.
" Oh I um–"
" How did y'all get here?" I frowned. I could tell she was hiding something.
" We had to walk Saint."
" Natalie." I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
"Please tell me you're fucking joking." I sighed and she flinched the moment I sat my gun down.
" You're already upset. I wouldn't make this situation worse by trying to hurt you so calm yourself down and tell me what happened."
" Go ahead. Continue." She stood there silent as if she couldn't find the words she needed to say. I was growing impatient by the second.
" My father isn't happy about you getting Nova again. He made me pick between living with them or letting Nova come here. My entire family turned their backs on me because they are afraid to step on his toes s-so." She stuttered as her hand shook.
" So what?" I raised a brow
"Please Saint. Just let me finish." She mumbled and by now that tears that had formed earlier had rolled down both her cheeks.
" The money you would send for her stop coming when you left so your half was no longer covered on my rent. I couldn't afford to put up another two thousand for a condo. The landlord said they attempted to get in contact with you because they needed to get you to sign new forms due to an updated owner and new lease since it was in your name. I couldn't get that done so after weeks of stalling; I lost everything. They let us stay with them but when I mentioned she was going to see you he lost it. He made me to choose between living with them or allowing you in her life. I begged my parents to show us some grace because it's freezing out but my father refused. When you returned, he made sure I lost my job for "lateness". I took what I could fit in my car. It mostly belongs to Nova. I made a promise to my daughter that she would have us both. I never expected this to happen to me. I feel angry because I have no home for my daughter"
