Violet's POV
A few days had passed. Rose had successfully called the hit on Jeff into the Cobras. Now was the horrible part: waiting for it to happen. She and I sat at the breakfast bar at the Spades house as Jeff cooked us pasta for lunch. Who would cook when he was gone? I felt my stomach clench at the thought of never seeing his sweet face again.
I felt a hand snake around my waist and I looked up and saw Andy towering over me. "We have to go on a run today." He said and I nodded. I still didn't really approve of all of the activity of the gang, but it was something I would have to live with if I wanted to be with Andy.
"Am I allowed to go back to my apartment then?" I asked and he glared at me.
"You know you're safer here." He said.
"I don't want to be here. Especially if you're not here because then I really don't have anything to do." I complained and he smirked.
"Nothing to do?" He questioned.
I shrugged. "What can I say? You keep me entertained." I smiled and he leaned in to kiss me but was interrupted by Rose's voice.
"So can we leave or not?" She asked. Andy frowned and stood back up.
"Jeff, are you coming on the run?" Andy asked him, ignoring Rose's question.
"Boss never asked me to, so I can keep an eye on these two," Jeff said smiling at us. I nervously looked down. Being alone with him terrified me. It made everything in my body feel sad because I knew I was betraying him.
"Fine. You may go to your apartment. But as soon as we are done I'm taking you back." He glared at me.
"More like dragging us back." Rose snarkily remarked. Andy rolled his eyes and I reached up and grabbed his face, pulling him in to kiss me.
"We will be safe. Don't worry." I tried to put his mind at ease.
"I will see you later Sweetheart." He said as he walked away from me. "Stephen. Let's go. I'm pulling the car around." Andy yelled as he left the kitchen. Stephen appeared walking down the stairs.
"Hey, Princess," Stephen called at Rose. "Don't miss me too much while I'm gone today."
"Don't count on it" She sassily remarked. "Vi, Jeff, and I are going to be at the apartment." She said. I saw his jaw clench and I picked up my tea and sipped it.
"You're not safe at the apartment." He said sternly as he walked towards her.
"You and I both know I can protect myself. And Jeff will be with us." She said. He closed his eyes and shook his head.
"Call me if anything happens." He said as he kissed her and left the house with Andy.
"Can we go now?" I asked as we finished our meals.
"So eager to get out of the Spades House." Jeff chuckled at himself.
"Yes, I am actually. I have some writing to do for The Times. You wouldn't want me to lose my job, would you?" I asked him and he smirked at me.
"No, we wouldn't want that! Let's go." He said. Jeff, Rose, and I went into the dark SUV and headed towards our apartment. I sat in the back alone as we drove down the long roads.
-When is it happening?- I texted Rose, hoping Jeff would be too focused on the road. I saw her check her phone and sneakily reply.
-They didn't give me a time. Only a confirmation that it would be taken care of. Relax. I can smell the fear on you- She replied and I took a deep breath. If the Cobras came to attack Jeff while we were alone with him they would get everything they've been after for the last few months. They would be hitting three birds with one stone. I regretted asking to leave the house now. I had a bad feeling.
