The Doctor immediately started working with the computers. He and I shared a look and my eyes widened. "You're not thinking...." I trailed off, smiling.
He simply smiled back. "Dalek plan. Big mistake, because what have they left us with? Anyone? Anyone?" No one responded.
"Oh, come on, it's obvious. A great big transmitter," I scoffed. "This station. If I can change the signal, fold it back, sequence it, anyone?"
Jack finally realized. "You've got to be kidding."
"Give the man a medal," the Doctor awarded sarcastically.
"A Delta Wave?"
I confirmed, "A Delta Wave!"
"What's a Delta Wave?" Rose asked.
"A wave of Van Cassadyne energy. It fries your brain," Jack tried to explain so everyone would understand, "Stand in the way of a Delta Wave and your head gets barbequed."
"And this place can transmit a massive wave. Wipe out the Daleks!" I smiled and was about to say something, but Lynda beat me to it. "Well, get started and do it then."
I stated the bad news, "Trouble is, wave this size, building this big, brain as clever as mine, should take about, oh, three days? With the Doctor, probably a day and a half. How long till the Fleet arrive?"
The man worker(I now know as Pavale) informed, "Twenty two minutes."
"Well, let's get started," I suggested. They all began helping while the Doctor and I worked on the Delta Wave.
"We've now got a forcefield so they can't blast us out of the sky," Jack's voice got a bit high pitched, "But that doesn't stop the Daleks from physically invading."
Pavale asked worriedly, "Do they know about the Delta Wave?"
"They'll have worked it out at the same time. So, they want to stop the Doctor. That means they've got to get to this level, five hundred," Jack said, "Now, I can concentrate the extrapolator around the top six levels, five hundred to four nine five. So they'll penetrate the station below that at level four nine four and fight their way up."
"Who are they fighting?"
"Us." After that, I stopped listening, too engrossed on making the Delta Wave work.
"Rose, you can help us," I offered, "I need all these wires stripping bare." She nodded and joined us. Pavale and the staff left to fight, leaving Jack and Lynda to say goodbye.
She stuttered a bit, "I just want to say, er, thanks, I suppose, and I'll do my best."
"Me too," the Doctor assured. They shook hands awkwardly and Lynda let Jack say his goodbyes.
He sighed, "It's been fun, but I guess this is goodbye."
"Don't talk like that. The Doctor's going to do it. You just watch him," Rose declared.
Jack smiled wryly. "Rose, you are worth fighting for." He cupped her face and lightly kissed her. Jack turned to the Doctor amusedly. "Wish I'd never met you, Doctor. I was much better off as a coward." He kissed the Doctor as well.
Jack turned to me and I just nodded. He spread his arms out and I hugged him, pecking his cheek.
Before he left, Jack smiled crazily. "See you in hell."
"I don't doubt it," I called.
We were silent until Rose asked hopefully, "He's going to be all right, isn't he?" The Doctor and I just looked at her and continued working.
