Chapter Seven ~ Trick or Treat

"Oh, my baby! You're so cute!" Said Kara in a cutesy voice. "Now we just gotta wait for dada and Ruby!" Kara picked up the baby who was dressed as a pumpkin, wrapped her in a crocheted blanket, and the baby yawned. Kara was dressed as Killer Frost, and MonEl was going as The Flash. They were all three going trick or treating in a neighborhood not too far away. They were going to take Ruby with them, she was going as Supergirl.

"I'm readyyy!" Kara jumped at the voice that was right in her ear and turned around. MonEl smirked, and showed off his flash costume.

"You look great in that!" Kara said, smiling a little even though he had scared her. "Here, hold Eliza. Imma take a picture." She handed Eliza to MonEl, then got out her phone. She stood next to MonEl, snapped a selfie, and there was a knock at the door. Kara opened it and let Ruby in, who ran up to Eliza and talked sweetly to her. Ruby was thirteen, and she said that next year she would feel too old to trick or treat. It made Sam sad to think about her baby growing up so fast.

"Thanks again, Kara. I don't know what I'd do without you." Sam said, sighing. "I wish I felt better so I could see her go trick or treating for the last time." Kara felt bad for Sam, who had caught a cold at the last minute. Sam would've let Ruby go alone if they lived right in the neighborhood, but they didn't. They lived in an apartment.

"Yes, me too. I'll take tons of photos for you!" Kara tried being reassuring. Sam said goodbye to Ruby, another thanks to Kara and MonEl, then left.

"Okay, When are we leaving?" Ruby asked, looking up at Kara. "I need sugar."

"Right now. Come on!" Kara grabbed her purse and slipped on her shoes while MonEl buckled in Eliza.

"Trick or treat!" Ruby got a handful of candy, then Eliza got a smaller handful.

"What an adorable family!" The elder woman said. "What's your name?" She bent down and looked at Eliza, who stared at the woman with big hazel eyes.

"Eliza." Kara smiled, and looked at Ruby who was happily eating a Twix bar.

"Oh, how sweet. Well, have a happy Halloween!" The woman said. Everyone stepped aside, letting another family get candy. A chilly fall breeze swept past everybody, making them shiver.

"Do you think we should start heading back now?" MonEl asked. He stole a packet of m&ms from Eliza's candy bucket that Kara was holding. He ripped it open and poured the whole small pack in his mouth, chewing quickly and swallowing. Kara rolled her eyes.

"You're probably going to get sick of you do that again, that's your third pack." She said in a motherly tone. "And it's up to Ruby. How many more house you wanna go to?" Ruby looked around the dark street, and her eyes landed on a house across from them. It had lots of decorations and what looked to be a giant cauldron if candy sitting in the driveway.

"That one, and we can leave. I haven't found a full size Hershey bar yet!" Ruby started running over, Kara MonEl and baby Eliza following behind.
The cauldron, upon inspection had lots of full sized candy bars, and it was a 'take one' sorta thing.

These people must be rich, Kara thought, surprised nobody had taken the candy bars all in one. Kara adjusted Eliza in the baby carrier, then took a candy bar from the cauldron. MonEl reached in for his own, but took three. Three full sized...?
"MonEl!" Kara shot him a look, and he smirked for the second time this night.

"Whattt? Gotta stock up on candy." He said, and Ruby giggled. They had all gotten tons of candy, and they headed back to the car.
