*Matthew*

Alexandra had already left with Conrad and Raymond and I knew they were on their way to training, but it felt like Alexandra was trying to avoid me after what happened between me and Raymond.

I can't blame her, it's not every day they let a rouge run free in their pack. Hell, I should be more thankful, if it weren't for her I'd still be rotting in one of those cells or worse I could've been dead. As for Raymond and Conrad, I get the reason for their treatment towards me. The beta and delta are supposed to protect their alpha at all costs, even if it's from her own mate.

And now I was sitting in Lisa's small library, reading a book about old Norse mythology. But after a while my reading was interrupted when Lisa came in carrying a tray with glasses of water and some food.

Lisa had insisted that I should keep my strength up by eating and keeping myself hidrated. I could imagine that she was seen as a mother figure by a lot of people just because she was so kind and considered.

She set the tray down on the small table and I thanked her for her kindness again. She waved it off and smiled at me.

"I see you're reading the Poetic Edda, all the Norse myths. Do you like history?" she asked.

"Yes, I do actually," I reply, quite sheepishly to which she just chuckled and took a book off one of the shelves. Then handed it to me.

"This is Alexandra's favourite book, she loves history with all her heart."

The cover read 'The Odyssey', I remembered I had read it in my old pack. The story about Odysseus, who travelled the whole ocean between him and his homeland to get back to his wife and child. Facing every obstacle Poseidon threw his way and then finally making it home.

"I've read it before, the storyline was beautifully written," I said and Lisa replied.

"Alexandra would sit and analyse the entire book, she just couldn't understand how one man could love a woman that much that he almost died just to get back to her. And I always told her it was his heart who kept his love for her alive. And she'll just say that she hopes her mate would be like Odysseus."

I stayed quiet after what Lisa had said, staring at the cover of the book. I didn't feel like Odysseus at all, how could a rouge suddenly be a hero? No, that sounded like some fantasy that could never become a reality.

I was brought back to my senses when I heard a chuckle and realized it came from Lisa. I gave her a confused look to which she replied, "You look so stressed, I thought you were going to pass out any moment."

She continued,"Anyway, don't worry about those expectations she set out. Besides, if you hadn't met them already, you wouldn't be sitting here. I promise you, she's trying to rebuild that bridge she had burned between you. Just remember her life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows before you came. Like all of us,she too has her demons, but Alexandra's demons are bigger than most and they are harder to hide."

"Lisa, if this is true and she does somehow trust me to help fight her demons, I promise I will give it my all, I'll be her shield if she needs me to be it. I'll give her my whole heart if it will help her through her struggle," I replied to what Lisa had said.

"That's why I already like you. You have that one special spark that never dies even if all hope seems lost. You just won't give up or give in to what others do or say to you. That's what makes you so likeable and I admire that trait of you. I believe in you Matthew. If anyone can break her wall it's you," Lisa stood up from her chair and patted my shoulder, then made her way to the door.

She then looked over her shoulder and said," I almost forgot, Alexandra said that they changed the date of the hearing to a week from now. That means we have less time to think of what your reason will be. And that she'll be coming back tonight to get the first bit of training started."
