"My name's Yoongi, by the way."
"I'm Jimin."
"Well Jimin, can I let you in on a secret?"
I nodded and he leant closer to me over the table.
"It gets easier," Yoongi whispered before leaning back into the booth and taking a sip from his mug.
We looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds, then he slid me a napkin and walked away to serve some more customers that had arrived.
I looked at the napkin on the table.
It had a name and a phone number scrawled on it.
I smiled and typed it into my contacts.
Min Yoongi.
"Jimin? Hey!"
I spun around at the familiar voice to see none other than Jin and Namjoon, holding hands, making their way towards my booth.
I felt a familiar scathing in my throat and let out a weak cough.
Yoongi heard and ran over.
"Excuse me, I just need to borrow Jimin for a second!" he said, pulling my up by the shoulder of my coat and dragging me into a store cupboard.
After he had closed the door behind us, he turned to me and rubbed my back soothingly once again as I dry heaved.
One lonely rose petal fell from my lips.
"A rose! You're clear," Yoongi exclaimed.
"What?"
"Didn't you know? You had Hanahaki Disease. But if you cough up one singular rose petal, it means your one-sided feelings are gone, or that you have fallen for someone else."
He looked at me curiously.
"It's very rare for that to happen though."
Wanting to revert the subject of conversation away from myself I said,
"You sound like you're talking from experience."
He shrugged.
It was then that I realised just how close together we were.
I could see each individual freckle on Yoongi's nose and cheeks; every intricate detail of his face.
I slowly released the breath that I didn't know I'd been holding.
"You're beautiful," I blurted out suddenly.
Yoongi blushed and looked into my eyes,
"You're not so bad yourself."
Then he broke eye contact.
"I'll let you out the back if you don't want to face them," he offered.
I nodded.
He took my hand and gradually edged the door open.
Luckily Namjoon and Jin were too busy giving each other heart eyes over their drinks to notice us slip by silently.
Once we were outside, Yoongi laughed.
"That was the weirdest first-day-on-the-job that I have ever had. And it's not even 9am yet."
I joined him, giggling like an idiot.
I'd been doing a lot of laughing today.
I'd almost forgotten what it felt like.
Yoongi shivered violently, snapping me out of my trance.
"You should get back inside. Thanks for everything," I said.
"It's no problem. Call me," the barista replied, winking and sauntering back into the coffee shop.
I shook my head as I walked back to my house, feeling myself grin stupidly all the same.
It gets easier, huh?
Min Yoongi, you might just be right.
