Panic! start their sophomore album with a letter to their fans.  They also insist that they're still the same group they were when they first became famous, even though their sound certainly changed from album to album.

Oh, how it's been so long,We're so sorry we've been gone,We were busy writing songs for youOh, how it's been so long,We're so sorry we've been gone,We were busy writing songs for...

Through use of second person, the band collectively apologises for their absence directly to the audience. By the time that Pretty. Odd. was released, Panic! At The Disco hadn't released any material in three years. The band had initially began work on a fairytale-inspired concept album titled Cricket & Clover , in which the band retreated to a secluded cabin to do the writing process of the album. However, after a series of losing the demos to the album and the material not working out, it was scrapped. This process of writing effectively two albums caused their absence to the scene, which they explain as time they were 'writing songs'.

Panic! At The Disco ironically state that the act is "still the same band", despite the fact that the band went through some major shifts between the release of their debut album and the second album.
