"From a Cabin in the Middle of the Mountains" paints a realistic picture, reversing "mountains" and "cabins" makes little sense, unless there's somehow a circle of cabins around a mountain

Jon Walker: It's kinda like an outro to the whole theme of the record, um, but it isn't the last song... so in my eyes it kinda feels like an ending, a winding down.

Brendon Urie: It's like that cartoon of Mickey and Minnie from like, the 30's or 40's, where they're walking on the beach with the umbrella in between the fountains and stuff, and he's like, feeding her chocolate cherries... Oh, and then they die at the end of the cartoon. That's what this song is.

Lying thereWith a halo in her hair she criedThere are feathers everywhereBut it's fineYou do this all the timeCrying nowThrough a rusted smile she knowsThis isn't how he paid the bills beforeDrug farm entrepreneur

The woman is metaphorically compared to an angel, symbolizing her innocence. When she finds out that her husband has started to earn money illegally through the drug business, a piece of this innocence is lost, which is why there are 'feathers everywhere'. She tries to smile as if everything is fine, but it's forced and insincere. This clearly isn't the first time he's hurt her, however, and the damage may be much more permanent than he realizes. Her smile is described as 'rusted'. Rust , also known as iron oxide, causes iron and iron-based alloys to slowly weaken and eventually disintegrate. The way that the woman's husband repeatedly corrupts her is causing her happiness to slowly be destroyed, much like the way rust eats away at metal.

  Go spin circles for me
Wound relentlessly
Around the words we used to sling
Oh, such torturous things
Always chewing up the only ones
I ever mean

To talk in circles means to repeatedly argue the same points without ever reaching a conclusion. Here, the narrator and his lover are arguing about the arguments that they've had in the past and the impact that they've had. Negative words have the ability to increase activity in the amygdala , a portion of the brain that is often associated with fear.

Although not everything the narrator says is negative, he tends to 'chew up' the positive things, which are the only ones he believes are true. As a result, however, she only hears the negative, as the positive things are taken back or left unsaid. Due to this inability to tell her how he really feels, their relationship, much like the argument, isn't going anywhere.

  Watch love
Get strangled by a kite's cold strings
Fall comes early and summer leaves
As a storm with the car keys

Kites go from being a fun, innocent toy to being incredibly harmful to the subject, as the relationship goes sour. The "cold strings" here allude to complications that put a strain on their feelings, and could also be a connection to the saying "strings attached," which is sometimes used when someone has fallen for someone they shouldn't have, like if the girl were to fall for her drug dealer.

  Spark your heels
Up against the picket fence I built
All your wishes they will sink like stones
Slowly down a lonely well

A picket fence is often used as a symbol of an 'ideal' life in suburban America. In this case, the woman is trying to convince herself that she actually doeshave a perfect life despite the turmoil in her relationship, which leaves her unhappy and distressed.

Traditionally, people throw coins into wells or fountains after making a wish in hopes that it will come true. In this case, she is hoping that her relationship will improve, but she is let down in the end. Simply wishing for improvement wasn't enough, as her dreams of a better relationship sunk.
