Chapter 7
Katelynn watched Declan leave with an appreciative eye before glancing at the napkin. He hadn't looked back which had given her a nice view.
Carla made her way over and just stood watching Declan for a second. "That is one gorgeous man," she sighed, an air of dramatics around the sound.
Katelyn wanted to disagree, or at least stay silent, but she wasn't one to lie if she didn't have to. "Hmm-mm." Her gaze shifted to the napkin where Declan had left his number. Did she want to call him? Yes. Would she? She didn't know yet.
She hadn't thought she'd get a chance to make the decision. There was a surprisingly low number of guys who were okay with the kind of arrangements she was comfortable with, and an even more surprising number who didn't pry into her reasonings until she just walked away. Declan originally had given off a 'looking but not seriously' kind of vibe, someone who wanted something permanent but wasn't quite at the online dating level.
Katelyn input the number into her phone anyway, figuring it couldn't hurt to have it even if she never called it for a good time. She wasn't unaware of Carla watching as she did.
"You know," Carla began, slowly clearing up the table. "You could do a hell of a lot worse."
And wasn't that just saying something. Now that she knew he wouldn't want more from her than something casual, the only real hang-up Katelyn had about hooking up with Declan was his relation to her boss. Take away that, there was really no reason to deny herself. He seemed decent, knew the score, and had a look in his eye that promised he'd make her time worth it.
It couldn't hurt she'd been thinking about it anyway for the past couple of weeks. She'd barely seen him, but when she had for even those split seconds there'd been a charge between them.
Yes, she could a hell of a lot worse.
Carla had left her to her thoughts and a quick glance at her phone told her they'd be closing down for the night soon. She dropped the money for the meal on the table and added her regular tip, waving a goodbye to Carla and Nancy – the girl who had been her official waitress for the night.
She drove back to her uncle's place, enjoying the quiet of the town but still questioning how in such a suburban area there wasn't a single decent apartment. Since everything had been so crazy at the job, she decided to attribute that to why she still not been able to find a place of her own. The closest places she could find were asking for way more than they were worth. She'd even tried a quick walkthrough to see if maybe she was judging too hard.
She hadn't.
The place hadn't been bad, it had just given off a seriously creepy vibe. Such as the random "security camera" in the bathroom the landlord hadn't been able to explain. That plus the extra $200 that couldn't be given a valid reasoning. It was not worth it.
Katelyn pulled into the driveway just as Martin was leaving the house.
"Hey, kiddo. Glad I caught you. Bill's sick tonight so I told him I'd take his shift."
Katelyn barely had time to respond with a wave before he was driving off. Alright, so she had the house to herself tonight.
She also happened to have the number of a guy who was interested.
No. If she was going to do this, and chances were she was, it wasn't going to be at her uncle's house. Something about it just felt so juvenile and she didn't want to be half worrying about her uncle when she was busy seducing Declan.
