He doesn't get the chance to say anything else, when the man comes back once again and this time heading directly for the door, not sparing us one look. He steps aside, letting the newcomer in. Once again i am shocked beyond belief for the second time that evening when i recognise who it was. Esteban is even more shook, when the man he sees is Kevin Costan.
Esteban's father...
---------------------------------------------
Bewildered was not a word you usually use. At least not in the right contest. The emotions surging through me, were diverse, like small microscopic atoms crashing into each other. I was confused as to what Mr. Kevin Costan was doing there, but also angry, scared and most of all unbelieving.
I had different case scenarios elabored in my mind in the span of a bunch of seconds. Some more probable than others. Still my 'bewilderment' was largely beat down by Mr. Costan's. The look on his face; his wide eyes and open mouth, did not match the sharp suit he was wearing, somehow conveying a look of an untouchable confidence.
his stare was coming and going, from me to his son, over and over. The kidnapper was on the other hand perplexed at the visible exchange between us, he starts:
"What is-" he gulps before trying again " what is it sir?"
Sir? If my eyes could go wider, they would have.
"What are they doing here, Tyler?", so the gang member, my kidnapper was called Tyler.
"I don't understand sir. It's the girl i told you about, Angela's daughter."
What does this mean ? suddenly, i understand that there was no way, Kevin Costan had come there to help us...He was there, because he was his associate. The epiphany hits me hard. I glance back at Esteban, still not moving, not blinking. He didn't know about this, no he didn't for sure, he couldn't be this shocked if he did!
Finally, Esteban is pulled out of his haze when he hears his father pleadingly saying "Son...", he clearly doesn't know what to say.
"Dad, what are you doing here? why is he calling you Sir?"
That's when Tyler chooses to interrupt: "Dad? this man? he- is your father?"
the moment is frozen right then, everyone of us expecting an answer to our very own questions. Esteban's father is the one who breaks the silence, his shock long since forgotten and erased, he says:
"Tyler, untie my son right now" Tyler, finally picking up on the situation at hand, walks to Esteban, goes behind him and cuts his ties, then takes two steps back, waiting for the next order.
It all happens too fast when, Kevin Costan, springs his arm up from his coat pocket, in which he's holding his gun. Fastly, he aims and pulls the trigger, no one of us has the time to process what's happening, i jump at the sound of the bullet being propulsed out of the gun, i look back at Tyler, he is pressing his right hand on the rapidly bleeding wound on his left shoulder, one minute he is standing up and the next he is down on his knees before finally laying on the ground, on his chest. I can't stop looking at the scene when i hear brustling beside me, I hear Kevin Costan talking to his son, in a pleading tone, with his hans pressed on his son's shoulders.
"Este, get out of here. forget this happened. Go home, i'll be back shortly"
"Dad, you just shot someone, you killed him! is he dead? God ple-" Esteban's rambling is interrupted by his father's, "Leave now." The forceful tone along with the tightening of his fingers on his son's jacket, seem to be waking Esteban from his confused state.
