Two-Bit Mathews was the most laid back and easy going guy you'd ever known. During school he never seemed to get stressed, and whenever you saw him out of school he seemed to be having the time of his life. That was before you knew him; really knew him.

About four months ago he started taking notice to you. You were a looker, that's for sure. He couldn't tell whether you wear a soc or a greaser, but for some reason he didn't care. Beauty like yours had no label. He slowly started making conversation with you and lazily flirting until he thought it was the right time to ask you to a movie.

That was tonight.

Well, that was supposed to be tonight anyways. Everything had been going smoothly as Two had planned. He had walked to your house a bit earlier and the two of you started walking to the drive in together.

While you were walking, Two told you more about himself and asked you some questions so he could get to know you better. He was completely and utterly captivated by your smile, your eyes and voice - just everything about you. It all soothed him; made him feel at home.

He probably should've been paying more attention to his surroundings, though, since he found himself running right into a soc. Two-Bit stumbled back, looking up at the soc as he turned to face him.

"Sorry about that," he would normally insult the soc, but for some reason he felt he shouldn't with you around, "...pal. Should've been watchin' where my feet were takin' me."

Two could see you out of the corner of his eye, smiling at his sweetness. Maybe that's why he didn't insult the soc; he wanted to see you smile again. Two began moving away from the soc, until he was grabbed by the arm and forced to turn back towards him.

"Damn right you should've been watching where you were going, filthy greaser!" The Soc hissed in Two's face, making your blood boil and jaw clench. Two-Bit peeked over at you, an unamused look wrestling his features. Yet he didn't swing at the guy, he didn't threaten him. He just stood as more and more hateful words were thrown at him. He knew you hated violence, and he wasn't about to lose you because of some dumb soc who wanted to pick a fight.

"Don't you have something to say, greaser? I thought you were tougher than this." You rolled your eyes as the soc continued babbling.

"He's already apologized, can't you just let us get to where we're goin'?" You snapped, crossing your arms over your chest defensively.

The Soc turned to look at you. He really was one mean looking guy. Everyone thought it was the greasers who were trouble, but considering the current situation you couldn't have disagreed more. Socs were scary.

"Who's this broad?" He snarled at Two, "hey sweets, you must be desperate as hell to be out with this bum!"

"Hey," It was Two's turn to snap. He couldn't just stand there and let him insult you. "You leave her out of this!"

Within seconds, the soc's fist collided with Two's jaw, causing him to stumble backwards. He quickly regained his posture. To be honest, you were surprised Two didn't tackle the soc right then and there. Instead, he grabbed your hand and turned on his heel, walking away.

The Soc reached out and grabbed your free wrist, but by then you had had it. You yanked your wrist from his grasp, and smacked the soc straight across the face.

"Don't you lay a hand on me, or him ever again!" You were beyond angry, you were shaking you were so enraged.

Before the soc could say anything else, you turned on your heal and headed back towards your house, pulling Two along behind you.

You didn't say anything as you entered your quiet house, slamming the door behind you before heading to your room. You nodded towards your bed, signaling Two to take a seat on it.

With your brows pushed together in anger, you left Two alone in your room to get the first aid kit. When you came back, you could hear slight whimpers from the other side of the door. Immediately your heart sank, and you pushed the door open.

There he was, cocky and laid back Two-Bit Mathews, crying quietly as blood pooled from his busted lip. You knew he wasn't crying because his lip hurt. He'd had worse injuries than that. So why was he crying?

You slowly approached him, sitting down in front of him on your bed. He wasn't sobbing or anything, just letting a few tears out.

You bit your lip, playing with the latch on the first aid kit as you listened to him breathe in shakily. You opened the plastic case, taking out the tools that would be needed to fix up his lip.

"I'm sorry," Two croaked, causing your eyes to dart up to his. For the first time, you could tell how much he hurt behind that smile of his.

"For what?" You questioned, taking his chin between your fingers so you could start cleaning the cut on his lower lip.

Two sighed, his breathing slowly becoming even again. "I just wish we could get away from here," for once he seemed timid and quiet, "away from all this.. this stereotypical greaser-soc bullshit."

You decided it would be best to let him rant. "If I weren't me then we would've gotten to see the movie," he continued, "hell, maybe that soc was right. You shouldn't be sneakin' around with some filth like me."

"You stop that, Mathews. I chose to go tonight and I'm just glad I got to be with you," Two's eyes snapped up to yours at the sound of your nickname for him. You only used it when you were being dead serious. "You're a really sweet guy, and I could careless whether you're a greaser or a soc. To me you're human, and that's all I need."

Your voice quieted towards the end of your mini venting moment, and you slowly moved to place a short kiss on Two's upper lip.

Two-Bit Mathews was himself, but a version you hadn't got to know yet. But you would eventually, and even so, you were already in love with every part of him that there was.
