Mithila.

"Amyra, where's Mira?" I shout from the kitchen, taking out the Mac and Cheese from the pot. As I turn around, I notice Amyra and our five-year-old Standing at the kitchen doorway, dressed like a unicorn. I dramatically gasp, placing the Mac and Cheese on the table, and crouching down in front of Mira, giggling as I see her cute purple eyeliner and pink lips. "Who are you?" I tease Mira, and kiss her forehead, before standing up and making a split second eye contact with Amyra, who was now leaning on the doorway, arms crosses in front of her chest, pouting; "Where's my kiss? Don't I get one for effort?" She says, huffing out.

I laugh quietly, before walking over to her and pecking her lips, and then her forehead, before leaning back; "Happy?" and she nods, a ghost of a smile lingering on her lips. I smile back, before I lead them to the table, and force them to sit down and eat, before Amyra can drive Mira to school.

"Mommy?" Mira quietly says, poking her Mac and Cheese on the plate, a frown lingering on her painted lips.

Amyra and I both reply, "Yeah?" at the same time, and Mira glances up, before giggling, but her expression goes back to the solemn one as fast as it disappeared; "Why don't I have a daddy? All my friends have a daddy, too." Her voice was laced with innocence, and I had to look away. I clear my throat and look over to Amyra, who's looking down at her plate with furrowed eyebrows. I reach over the table and grasp her hand in mine, setting it on the table, before looking at Mira with a smile;

"Sweetheart, sometimes, people like the same gender as them; like your mommies. I love your mother so much, Mira, I hope you know that. People can like anyone; girls can like girls, and boys can like boys; it's natural. Your mommy is the best thing that has ever happened to me, honey. And I wouldn't change what her and I have for anything. Your mommy and I love you." I explain and Mira nods, before grinning.

"Now eat up, you're gonna be late for school."

"I liked the way you explained it to her today morning," Amyra mumbled as she entered the kitchen and put her arms around my waist, resting her head on my shoulder.

"But, I feel like we're not enough for her; that she'll always be made fun of for having two mothers; or she'll always feel the absence of a father- figure." Sighing, I turn around in her hold, and hug her back, resting my chin on her head.

"Stop. We're enough for her. She knows the truth, and she knows how to stand up for herself. As for a father- figure; I'm pretty sure she still thinks boys and men have cooties. I still do, too. We can't be a father for her, but we can be the best mothers ever, Amyra." I kiss her forehead, before handing her the plate;

"Tell her to eat her veggies or she won't get the sundae tonight." Amyra giggles and nods, and comes closer to my ear before whispering,

"You make a pretty good mommy." and walks out the door, leaving me standing wide-eyed, pressed into kitchen slab. I smile, before whispering to myself;

"You make a pretty good mommy too, Amyra."
