Amyra, Unpublished- 1.

Mithila.

"No, this isn't correct, I specifically ordered Smeraldos. Yes, Purple. No, I do not want Orchids. How would you feel if I got you Daisies instead of your wife's favourite flowers on your anniversary, Paul?" I snarled on the phone, my patience growing thin by the passing second.

"Just get me the damn flowers before 6." I sigh, glancing the clock placed on the table; 16:39pm.

I slam the phone down and walk to the kitchen, pulling open the fridge, my eyes restlessly moving to find the correct ingredient. "Honey, do we have cheese?" I give up on finding and settle on asking Amyra, who responds with a 'no'.

I walked upstairs and informed her I was going to the grocery store to get some things, and put on my shoes, grabbed some money, my phone and the car keys, and walked out. I got in my car and reversed it out of the driveway, my hand fumbling with the stereo, and the other steering the car in direction.

I pressed the button for the sunroof and stopped my car for a moment, only now noticing what a lovely colour of pink the sky had become, with swirls of orange and blue painted in irregular patterns. I turn the car on again, and drive to the grocery store, and walk inside, my hands reaching out for one of the trollies and pushing it in the direction of the dairy isle. I scan past the cheeses before picking up the ones Amyra and I both loved, and walked to the checkout.

I pay and pick up the bags and make my way to the car, put the items in, a drive back home.

I seemed to have mastered perfect timing. As soon as I step into the home, Paul is about to ring the doorbell, with the purple Smeraldos in his hand. I pull open the door, hand him the money, take the flowers and say a thanks, before he smiles back in welcome and walks to his van, driving away.

I close the door and turn around, my eyes meeting Amyra's and I hide the bouquet behind my back, grinning;

"Go to the living room, don't come into the kitchen." She laughed lightly before nodding her head and walked to the living room, crossing her legs and sitting on the couch, while I ran to the kitchen, and prepared a cheese board.

I took two wine glasses and set them on the table and filled the wine chiller with ice, putting a bottle in. I set the cheese on the table, and hold the bouquet in my hand, before calling out Amyra's name;

"Babe, come here."

She walked to the kitchen and her eyes meet mine for the second time, and I bring out the bouquet, "Happy anniversary, baby."
