Sam’s POV
I keep running that conversation though my head.
‘Are you Sam Anderson?’ a guy asked. He looked important even though he was only wearing jeans and t-shirt.
‘Yes’ I said pulling my helmet and pads off.
‘You are a girl’ he said surprised.
‘You would have thought that people had got over it by now, I mean I am also Sam Jameson’ I told him and he smiled.
‘I would turn you off but I like your attitude and you play amazing, especially given that you can play so many positions’ he said.
‘I mean so many people have turned me off, they would have offered something but they saw I was a girl and became a sexist pig’ I laughed.
‘What about the boy you replaced? Will he be annoyed?’ he asked.
‘He’s my half-brother, I annoy him all the time’ I smile and he does too.
‘Well can you come and train with us Saturday in two weeks?’ he asked.
‘I sure can’ I said. He handed me a card with his contact details and walked off as I ran to join the team as they were already on the bus.
I was walking on cloud nine when I got up on Saturday. I spent about an hour talking to Andrew. They had just won so we would be playing each other here next week. I couldn’t wait and he was bragging that they would beat us this time.
Jake was already sitting at the table when I got up. You could tell that he was annoyed. I wasn’t sure whether it was his benching or my invite to train with LSU. I heard him telling Matthew once that LSU was his dream University too.
He wasn’t that good. He didn’t have the natural talent that scouts were looking for. His passes were ok but his bomb lacked distance. He struggled under pressure and he needed his whole offense line to be working for him to look good. Of course I wouldn’t tell him as he would get mad.
After the thrill of last night’s game I had forgotten about the meeting I had arranged with Katherine. It was almost 9:30 and we were meeting at the park at ten. I sat down to breakfast when Father walked in.
‘So how are you going to get to Louisiana?’ he asked.
‘Michael and I are going to drive’ I told him.
‘Two sixteen year olds’ Jake said.
‘He is eighteen and I am seventeen’ I smirked.
‘You are sixteen’ Summer said.
‘I turned seventeen two weeks ago’ I told them all.
