Sam’s POV
I was so glad to get out and be on the road and heading to LSU. Michael was driving and we were listening to music. I was singing and Michael was humming. He knew that if he sung I would laugh at him, which I would. We made it to Louisiana before midnight. Michael had booked us a small motel room.
It really small. All it had was a bed and bathroom. I crawled into bed tired from football. Michael snuggled in beside me and I crawled into his arm. When I woke it was light outside. We had to be at LSU by ten and I’m guessing that it is about nine. I pulled myself up trying not wake Michael but I didn’t succeed.
‘Morning Sunshine’ Michael yawned. I hit on the shoulder.
‘I thought I told you not to call me that’ I smiled.
‘Did you see who we are playing next?’ he asked.
‘No’ I say.
‘We are playing the Summerset Dolphins’ he said and waited for it to sink in. The Dolphins are the four time runner up national champions. Every time that we played them at the Jaguars, it was close.
‘They are no match for the Mountain Polar Bears’ I smirk.
We got dressed before heading out. I wore shorts and a plain blue sports shirt. It wasn’t hard to find somewhere for breakfast. I didn’t eat much, I was too nervous.
‘You have to eat something’ Michael said as I played with my food.
‘I’m too nervous’ I said.
‘Just be who you are and remember I’ll be there to support you’ he smiled as we got up to leave.
‘Cheesy line’ I teased.
LSU was five minutes’ drive away. We pulled up right beside the football fields. I grabbed my stuff and headed towards Coach Thompson.
‘Welcome Sam, the changing rooms are over there’ he said. I changed as quickly as I could before dumping my stuff with Michael.
‘Everyone this is a college student, her name is Sam Anderson’ Coach said as everyone gather round.
‘Sam is a girl’ everyone gasped.
‘Come on get over it. Girls can play football too’ I smirked.
‘What do you play?’ someone asked.
‘Line backer and quarterback’ I said.
‘I’m going to start with you at quarterback and move you later’ Coach said as we started.
The training was hard but not as hard as the ones the Jaguars do.
‘Tell us about you’ someone said.
‘I played for the Johnsonville Jaguars since eighth grade. I changed my name from Sam Jameson to Anderson and I get really annoyed if you call me Samantha’ I tell them as we begin our final activity.
‘Our final thing is twelve laps around the field. Each time you reach these stairs you run up and down them. Once you have done that you run five figure eights. That is one circuit, you do five’ he yells. Everyone groans, no one has done it before.
I was the first one to finish. I was tired and felt like I was going to cough up blood. Coach Thompson was waiting for me.
‘I’m impressed with you, I have a full scholarship deal for you and Michael’ he said. I hadn’t noticed Michael throwing the ball around. He mingled during training. I waved him over and explained what Coach Thompson had said.
‘Sure’ we both say at the same time. He leads us inside.
‘Your normal Coach told me about your condition’ he said as he found the paper work.
‘We will look after you and if you ever need to stop just say’ he said. I was the first to sign. LSU was paying for everything, fees, accommodation everything. When we got in the car I was so happy. Not only had I got into LSU, my dream school, but Michael had too.
Father was waiting for me when I got home.
‘How was it?’ he asked. Like he care.
‘It was great and I got a scholarship offer’ I smile. I notice Jake’s shoulder’s deflate.
‘I forbid you from signing’ Father snapped.
‘It’s too later, I already have’ I smirk
