Throughout the entire brunch meeting, my eyes stayed glued to Revon, who tried his best to avoid looking in my direction.
I honestly couldn't tell you what was discussed during those 2 hours. Rodney had kept jabbing me in the ribs to get my attention, I was meant to be helping him after all. Yet I couldn't focus on anything that wasn't a Revon Brown.
Even though I should have listened in for Rodney's sake, I don't feel guilty for ignoring him. Usually, I have little to no contact with people involved with the job. I'm a shadow working behind the scenes. So whatever was said today will probably be of little help to me anyway.
I know that my close friend put two and two together, especially since my staring wasn't discreet to someone that knows me. It probably looked as though I wanted to bury Revon 6 foot under. When in reality? I wanted to ask where he went, if everything was ok, explain that Rodney and I really were just friends.
Yet, the suggestive and knowing smirk I got from Rodney as the meeting came to an end told me that he saw through my death glare. This is the worst part of leaving people close to you. You can't hide a god damn thing.
I had tried to pull Revon aside before he left but there was no chance of it happening. He kept his head down and stayed close to his boss as he left, continuing to leave in a car parked out front. It was frustratingly annoying, to say the least. I figured that Revon had second thoughts after having time to himself after our date came to an end. It's the only thing that I could think of as to why he would give me the cold shoulder like that.
Rodney, Ms Raymond and myself were now left standing outside of the restaurant as the black work car drove away with the one who plagued my thoughts.
"Thank you, again, for all you did with my accounts, Ms Raymond. And as I said earlier, if you could send on your findings to Jameson here, that would be great!" Rodney says, snapping me out of my daze as I watched the car disappear around a corner.
"Please, call me Tracey. Ms Raymond's makes me feel so old! And of course, I have the address you gave me so I'll be sure to have it delivered." She gave us a small smile as she looked between us and continued. "You both make a great couple by the way!" Her smile grew even more. I knew she was a fangirl!
Rodney smiles back and nods in agreement before her words register. Straight away he flushes and coughs. "Us? A couple? God no, Hunny! I'm as straight as they come. Jameson is just a good friend of mine. I've actually got myself a girlfriend, soon-to-be fiance if all goes well!" He jiggles side to side with a huge grin on his face as he looks over at me. He is announcing his proposal to me also since this is the first I've heard of it. Firstly, 'as straight as they come'? Ya, right. As for the proposal, I keep my face blank as I take my eyes away from the car that is disappearing around the corner down the street to meet my friend's excited eyes, yet there is something off in his smile.
Jane is not someone I find myself comfortable around, regardless of how long I've known her. Rodney, Jane, Summer and I, all went to school together, though Rodney was a year ahead. We were a close group of friends who always stuck together. Rodney and Jane have been together since around then. Frankly, I don't recall them not being a couple. They seemed more like the best of friends though, rather than a couple for the most part. There was just something always off about there relationship, something didn't click. And for my relationship with Jane? It has always been a bit rocky. We clashed on everything regarding Rodney. So maybe I am biased when I say that she is a bit of a bitch, but I can't help it. She is. There are times we can get along, I do believe she is a nice girl but she is simply not my cup of tea, never has been. Rodney is completely oblivious to how I feel about Jane and vice versa. It is right in front of him whenever we are all together, yet he doesn't see it.
