God Just Take me Now

Have you ever been so embarrassed that you thought it was the end, that you might as well just die now. Been so embarrassed that your exact thoughts were; Well, god, it's been fun.
You see, I was always just a little clumsy, but that day? That was some next level shit.

Ms. Smith was nice enough to deliver the homework to me, instead of me having to go all the way down to her classroom.

It was the only homework I really had that day with the exception of decorating a stupid binder for science.

Mr. Davis looked up at me and smiled. "How lovely to see you Ms. Preston."

"Natalia. It's Natalia."

"My sincerest apologies." He said mockingly.

Asshole.

I made my way over to a desk, this one was directly across from his, front table in the middle. I made an effort to be as loud as I could with the chair, it was a little extra and when he heard the bang and screech of it against the floor he raised an eyebrow at me.

I narrowed my eyes at him, only before stepping backwards and tripping on the leg of the chair, which sent me tumbling (in a rather ungraceful manner)

Pain seared through my back and I don't know if that or the embarrassment was worse.

I laid on the ground for a moment staring up at the ceiling and thought; This is it, this is death. God just take me now.

If you could die from embarrassment, at this moment, I wouldn't have a single breath in me. Instant. Death.

Suddenly Mr. Davis was looming over me and I squeezed my eyes shut momentarily. I felt the heat rise to my cheeks.

"Natalia, are you okay?" He said with wide eyes, I couldn't tell if he was concerned or interested in making fun of me. Either way, I didn't want it.

"I'm fine!" I snapped, I wasn't. And not just because of the pain, but because of how stupid I looked.

He paused for a moment and raised an eyebrow. "Than, uh, why are you laying on the ground."

My cheeks probably got even redder. "It's comfortable down here." I knew as well as him that that sounded outright dumb.

"Oh for god sakes Natalia, quit acting like a child and get off of the damn ground." He said, leaning down and stretching his hand out towards me.

I narrowed my eyes at him, and once again, said something super stupid and childish. "Make me."

I literally cringed, because I sounded about five years old. But Natalia Preston did not swallow her pride.

He sighed and stared at me momentarily, tapping his foot against the ground as he waited for me to give in and reach for his hand.

"Natalia, are you serious?"

"Okay, okay. Fine." I said, but just to annoy him, I used the desk to pull myself up instead of taking his hand.

"Next time be more careful." He said, before turning back to his desk.

The pain was still searing through my back but I still silently dropped into my chair, and pulled out my math book.

I was almost done when laughter filled the empty classroom, I looked up to see Mr. Davis practically dying of laughter.

Please don't be about earlier, I thought. "What's so funny?"

"You were trying to be a smart ass and fell over the fucking chair!" He said with a cackle. "Y-you just laid on the ground, 'It's comfortable down here'." He did an awful impression of my voice that made me mad.

He was out of breath from laughing so hard and his eyes were tearing up.

"I'm pretty sure that you aren't allowed to swear here."

He took a deep breath and then he was calm, only a second later he burst out laughing again and heat lifted to my cheeks.

He took a couple more deep breaths and then groaned. "No but seriously, are you alright that was a pretty big fall." He had to stifle another laugh.

Asshole.

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure since I'd already made myself look like an absolute child. "I'm fine, my back is just a little sore."

He scoffed. "A little?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Yes, a little."

He looked at his watched to see that our time was almost up. "You can start packing up now, do you need my assistance with getting out of that desk."

"You're not funny."

He grinned. "I think I'm hilarious."

"Well you aren't." I said as I slung my navy backpack over my shoulder, I winced because damn, my back. But just for the record, my back most definitely hurt more than just a little.

"Are you walking home Natalia, or is someone picking you up?"

I sighed and shook my head. "No, nobody's picking me up. My dad's mindset is; If you do something bad you will not be rewarded, there are consequences for your decisions." I did my best impression of his voice which earned a laugh from Mr. Davis.

"Good parenting...." He said with a small laugh, "But your back seems really sore, and I'm not sure how good it'll be to lug that bag all the way home. I'll give you a ride if you want." He offered, and for the first time in the few days I'd known him, actually sounded sincere.

Absolutely not, I was trying to distance myself from him because god he pissed me off but I'd found out that just a part of me had a weird and unexplainable gravitation toward him and I hated it.

I was about to tell him I could manage, until I took a few steps and I swear my spine was trying to leave my body. "I actually would... appreciate that." I said reluctantly.

"Here." He said, grabbing my bag before I could even say anything. "Let's go."

He was chuckling all the way to the door. "It's comfortable down here." He mocked under his breath.

I sighed.

"Fell over the fucking chair." He mocked again.

I glared at him. "Okay okay that's enough."

"You're right, I'm sorry." He replied, straightening his face.

He then proceeded to snicker under his breath.

I began to regret my decision of getting a ride because god he was annoying.

I tried to keep my eyes on the window, but I saw him shake his head out of the corner of my eye.

"You know, you shouldn't get into cars with people you don't really know, I could be a serial killer." He said with a shrug

I pressed my lips together and raised my eyebrows, briefly glancing over at him. "Well are you a psychotic serial killer that's been waiting to get me alone?"

"Maybe. You never know."

I rolled my eyes and before I knew it we were at my house.

I grabbed my bag and gritted my teeth as I shrugged it onto my shoulders. I didn't want to say thank you, just because it was him, and I didn't want to feed his cocky attitude but I was raised right. "Thanks for the ride." I mumbled as I prepared to close his door.

"Aw, you're welcome. See you in class." He smiled cockily. "Oh and after school too."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Goodbye." I said before shutting the door and heading inside.
