How to Read

Phil's POV

Living with Dan is fun he always likes teaching me new things. One thing he is teaching me how to do is read. After we eat dinner together which I cook (because I don't like people making my food) we change into our pj and sit on the couch and read together.

Dan is a really really good and fast reader. Like super fast so he has to be smart. I'm not that fast at reading but I can read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Magic Tree House. Those are really big books but Dan can read books way bigger. I said he is super smart.

As I finish dinner I run to my room to change into my emoji pjs which Dan says that he wants to burn but I know he's joking. I also change my shirt and take Dan's space cat shirt. It's a comfy shirt and I'm the cat here so really it should be my shirt anyways.

I go get the book Dan and I are reading right now while Dan does the dishes. We both agreed this was a good idea because I sometimes feel like I should do all the work so Dan makes sure it is fair for both of us. I grab the second book in the Mysterious Benedict Society series and go wait on the couch. Dan reads me bigger books because he knows what all the words look like and I'm still learning. But he doesn't want me to be too confused as he reads but Dan says with how much I love reading I'll be better than him one day. I don't really think that's true because Dan is way smarter and faster at reading.

I'm a slow reader it takes me a long time to figure out which works mean what and then some have different backgrounds with the words. I'm not really good at reading but it's fun.

I look over to the doorway when I hear Dan coming down the hall. He smiles once he sees me. "You ready to read?" He asks sitting next to me but knowing to keep some distance.

I give Dan the book and scoot closer next to him to try and see the words. As Dan starts to read he moves his finger so I can follow the words if I wanted. Dan has a very soothing reading voice and makes up different voices for when a new character speaks to make me laugh.

It's very obvious reading is very new to me though but I love it so much. I have to stop myself from wanting to purr a couple times because I become so immersed into the book. Purring is something I just think would be weird to do while reading, I also don't know how Dan would react so I just stay quiet.

Eventually my eyes get tired and I stop following Dan's finger as he reads. I just listen to Dan's voice changing through the different characters as I stare around the room.

I've never fallen asleep outside of my room and Dan knows I don't want to. It's not long before he notices that I'm getting tired and puts a bookmark in. "I think it's almost time for bed yeah?"

I shrug "I'm not that sleepy" I say to have my body betray me with a yawn.

Dan only laughs "mhmmm ok sure well I'm going to brush my teeth and get ready for bed."

"Read tomorrow too right?" I ask before getting off Dan and the couch.

"Of course."
