Signing the papers into 3

Phil fell asleep on me after awhile. I was not expecting it but he looks so much calmer when he's sleeping and not overthinking every action.

I look up hearing the door open seeing one of the staff members Rachel come in. "Is that Phil?"

"Yeah he's sleeping poor guy tired himself out today." I say pushing some of his hair back. I've been sitting here for at least an hour as he rests running my hand through his hair.

"He doesn't do that with anyone. He won't even let us touch him half the time. Dan this is really special." She says crouching down by me. Even she pauses to take a good look.

"Yeah I think he just needs someone new and that can just accept some quirks." I say smiling down at him. He's a good neko who just needs to get out of this place.

"You're adopting him right?" She asks looking up at me.

"Oh me haha no." I let out a laugh "Phil deserves better than me. I might have the opportunity to help a neko but I don't know if I would be good to help him in the long run."

"I think you should come back to my office." Rachel says standing back up. "Dan his time is dwindling and he knows it. If you think you can help him don't hype him up for nothing."

"Wait why did you come in here?" I ask not in the mood for a lecture on what I should do from someone who barely knows me. I have my own issues sure I'd love to help him but that doesn't mean anything long term.

"Lounge is closing for the night Phil has to go back his room." She says looking down at the both of us. "So you can wake him up or I can either way waking this guy up isn't fun he loves his naps." She chuckles a bit at the end.

I decide I'll do it hoping nothing goes horribly wrong. I rub his back to start letting his unconscious self realize something is happening "Hey Phil buddy it's time to get up."

Phil turns a little in my lap but doesn't move again. I can't help but laugh a little. "Come on Phil gotta wake up I thought you said earlier you'd never fall sleep."

I hear him let out some kind of grunt before he stretches out. "Want stay here it warm." He mumbles curling up more.

"Philip it's time for bed we can go back to your room." Rachel says stiffly even making me tense up. When he hears her his eyes snap open and he is jumping off of me going into a weird sitting position I've seen him do a few times. I see her visibly sigh and Phil must catch on too as his ears lower against his head. "You ready?"

"Yes ma'am." He says looking up only when he speaks. I feel something inside me bubbling up. If this is their reaction to Phil then of course he isn't going to get better. They aren't replacing behaviors.

"Dan come with me too we should go to my office." Rachel says before she starts walking out the room. Phil looks really to follow her on all fours.

"How bout we walk together?" I ask offering my hand. He seems hesitant maybe a little embarrassed but accepts my help up. He looks more relaxed now that he is standing. He's almost the same height as me which I wasn't expecting. I've seen him stood up but never with us both side by side.

"Ok now sign here. This basically says you agree to the following house check ins after Phil has moved in. These will be monthly for the first 3 months and after that once every 6 months. And then yearly after that."

"Ok that's fine but how do you know we won't be on holiday or out of town if it's randomly?" I ask already signing my name below knowing either way I have committed myself.

"We will call and give you a 2 days notice and so if you're out of time we will move the time randomly again." I nod my head along to what I'm being told.

"We have most of the information we need from you. All we need to do is a house check which can be any time Monday through Friday 10 to 4. So what time would be best for you?"

"I can do tomorrow at 3 I just want to make sure I can get some things for Phil ahead of time." I say typing the information into my notes app.

"Alright I'll have Caroline come out tomorrow. As you were told earlier she is Phil's therapist but she is also a social worker for the shelter. She will be the one who comes to do all the house checks. Now we have 4 mandatory therapy sessions Phil must attend the first month. He has been having them on Wednesday's so we recommend keeping them on that day. Also for Phil's case I would recommend him seeing a therapist regularly to help with his anxiety and ptsd. At the end of the day after those 4 sessions it is no longer up to us if he sees a therapist. You can keep him in therapy with us or you can find your own. In the packet here there will be some other neko therapists that we recommend." She slides over the rest of the packet along with a copy of Phil's file.

"I'll have to see how he handles therapy but I'm definitely a huge advocate for anyone being able to talk to a therapist." I let her know. I feel like I have to prove I can be the person they expect me to be for Phil. Even though I know all I'm saying is the truth I will stick by.

"We are so happy Dan. He's been here for months and he still has a long ways to go but getting out of here is going to be so good for him." She smiles eyes crinkling in the corners.

"I'm glad I could help. Also since it is going to be a day or so before Phil will be leaving... Can I bring in some packaged food for him so he doesn't have to have the feeding tube? I don't want to see him in a situation like that ever." I say trying to keep my tears back now is even hard.

"Oh! Of course just no milk we have almond milk here. Neko's can't have much dairy cause ya know makes them sick." She seems so surprised I would even offer that but maybe that means I am going to be ok for him.

"Is it individually packaged like will he have yours or should I get him some?" I ask wanting to make sure he will be fully set.

"We have individual cartoons. He does have those."

I stalk up the house with anything I think Phil would like. I got little cereal packages that he can have day by day and have variety for whatever he might want. Little tuna packets. I found some tiny almond milk cartons. Little snack packs that are typically used in school meals. All of the food I could think might hold him over until I learn more about him.

I went through and tidied the flat. I even got all the papers I dropped because the couch and organized them. Cleaned the whole guest room and made it back into a room for people instead of my video recording.

Any little items like shampoo toothpaste and toothbrush deodorant hair brush. All neko friendly and products for nekos.

All I can hope for is Phil feeling safe and comfortable.

I think next chapter will be the end for the intro? But we will see how that goes.
