Chapter 14
Date: April 21
Location: Old Ground Hotel
Time: 12:32 p.m.
“I hope you’ve enjoyed your stay.” A woman with frizzy brown hair said. “You’re bus should be here within the hour.”
“Thank you.” I replied with a small smile and picked up what little belongings I had and went outside where the others were currently waiting.
We had arrived at the hotel around 7 or 8 last night and after checking in we had all fallen asleep as soon as we got to the beds. I didn’t get up until noon the next day and I was surprisingly the first one up, even Valentin couldn’t resist sleeps tempting calls. I had wanted to go to the Cliffs that day, but after a huge argument, we had to postpone it for a day and issue an apology to the police.
We needed a plan, that’s why we couldn’t go the next day, Valentin had said, we needed more time. Matt and Iris both thought we had wasted enough time and wanted us to leave that day. So we didn’t have a plan or any facts, but all of us, or at least I assumed all of us, were tired of waiting around for something to happen, we needed to do something.
The fight escalated quickly and that’s when the hotel had to call the police for fear of it getting any bigger and destroying any of their property. I could honestly say that I have never been happier to see the police in my entire life. I was trying to calm the others down, much like Fran, but it seemed we were just adding to the fuel of the flames.
Which brought us to now, we were taking a bus to the Cliffs of Moher in hopes that Maria and Max would be there. We didn’t risk renting a car because we didn’t want any trace; cash was the only thing we used.
The bus would pick us up at the hotel and then after a long ride of screaming tourists drop us off at the Cliffs and then, well even with an extra day of planning, we weren’t entirely sure what we were going to do, find Maria was the only thing on our list.
“And we could have already been there by now.” I heard Matt’s voice rising in anger.
“Don’t even start.” I interjected before Valentin could make a snarky comment back. “I know it’s been awhile but we all have to start getting along with each other again which means no more fights that cause people to call the police.” My voice grew a little colder at the end so I could make sure that they understood what I was saying.
Getting back to work, our actual work, was a lot more difficult than I expected, or at least the others were making it more difficult than it needed to be. We were all used to our own freedom and doing what we thought was right that it was harder to get in a group again and try and compromise with other people.
It had only been a day since we really started getting back into this and I wondered how long it would be until we were back like we used to be.
“I was just saying-“ Matt started and I silenced him with a raised hand.
“No more, what’s done is done.”
I felt like my mother. She was always the one to calm down fights between people, I had seen it when a few people from her work came over and started arguing, she was always the peacemaker. I took a little after her in that sense; at the time that was the only thing I thought I took after her.
“So what are we going to do?” Fran asked.
“Find Maria,” Iris stated.
“Then what?” Fran questioned again. “What do we do then? What if we can’t find Maria? What if it wasn’t actually her?”
