. . .. . .
An explosion in the observation room make everybody stop and stare. I turn back from the explosion to see a man grabbing the last vial of the serum from the tray.
"Hey!" I cry out. He winks at me before firing at a bullet. People screamed as the gunshot sound ringed in the room. Directed at me or not, my fast reflexes somehow had caught the bullet mid-air with my hands. I widen my eyes, before flinging the bullet away from my heated fingers. Steve stared at me incredulously. The man must have been surprised as well, as he paused before firing again but this time it was successful. I turned around to see who he had shot.
My throat made a choking noise as I stared as Ab's chest, blood heavily seeping out. He stumbled before landing in my arms. I hear Peggy's footsteps dashing towards the man as I slowly put him against the table. He smiles at me, glancing around at the people before turning back to me.
"Don't think so low of yourself Topaz. You will never be a monster to me. You will always be a hero. Now go, make your old ma proud,"
My glassy eyes made his figure blurry. The only true father figure I had was now dying in my arms, and all he could say was I'm a hero? I'm no hero. I just failed in protecting him. I failed to protect someone that is dear to me once again.
"I promise I'll make it right," I whisper, lip trembling as I run out the lab and immediately get caught in the crossfire. Peggy shouts a sorry to me as she continues to fire at the cab driving towards her. I was blinded with anger. I stood in front of the cab, stopping it completely. From the window, I could see the surprised and slightly fearful look at the man's face. I sneer as I ignite the entire car into flames. He barely makes it, stumbling out with burnt clothes before running once again.
Before I could react a white blur sped past me. I realise it was Steve, and I let him chase after the man and I walk back into the lab, Peggy trailing after me confused.
"Topaz? What are doing? Aren't you going to help Steve?"
"If I do I'd probably be killing the man as well," I say in a hoarse voice. Peggy stares at me with kind look in her eyes. Sympathy. I don't deserve it. I turn away as she walks over to me, calling out my name and only stopping when a voice calls her over. My head spins as I pull a chair over from the corner of the room to where I stood. Howard, who was talking to the doctors tending to my old man notices my presence and walks over to give me a big hug. I sob in his chest, feeling a sense of comfort from his tight hug. We pull away and he ruffles my hair. His eyes tell everything to me as he whispers softly to me.
