 Chapter 29: I’m Moving Out

 Recap:

We stood there a little longer, the sun starting to lower slightly, the trees swaying in the light wind, and the birds chirping. We stood in silence, but we jumped slightly when someone cleared their throat behind us.

We whirled around and I choked on my own spit, my eyes widening to the size of pizza pies. All words got caught in my throat as I stared at the person in front of me. The shock that was running through my body paralyzed me and my mind was in a fuzz. My mouth fell open and I felt like screaming.

I finally made my mouth move and speak, my voice coming out dumbfounded and in a whisper. “What the actual…”

“Fuck?!” Dylan finished, sounding just as confused as I was.

The person in front of us just simply smiled.

Nina’s POV

“Hello son, Nina… You are looking lovely as always,” David Stone stood right in front of us, smiling away with his hands entwined behind his back. He didn’t change much in the two years I haven’t seen him- he’s still the buff, skinny man with the brown hair cut shortly to his ears. He had on a black suit, looking classy and posh as ever.

“Dad? What… What are you even doing here?” Dylan didn’t sound mad, just confused and bewildered that his father was standing in front of him after such a long time.

“I’ve heard the horrible news; sad really…” He sighed shortly, not showing any remorse at all which shocked me even more. “Well,” He clapped his hands together as if brushing off the death of his ex-wife. Like the fact that she died and this is her funeral didn’t mean much to him. “I’ve come to see how you and my two other children are doing.”

“Did Janie and Joe see you?” Dylan asked rigidly, the anger he previously kept hidden starting to show.

“No, I don’t think so,” He looked back towards the church for a few seconds before turning around and lifting his mouth into a smile. His blue eyes which reminded me so much of Dylan’s shined happily. I was so bewildered over the fact that he could be smiling at such a time like this that my mouth still hung open in shock. “I believe they are getting acquainted with my new family, not that they know that yet, of course.”

The man that stood in front of me was so indecent, indifferent, and revolting that I wanted to puke. He was not the man I used to call a second father, he was not my dad’s best friend anymore, he was a jerk.

“New family? Are you fucking kidding me? You shouldn’t be here! No one wants a dick you like here. I sure as hell don’t! I just buried my mom, my fucking mother at the age of seventeen, and now I have to deal with you showing up? At least when you were an alcoholic mess, you were out of my life.” His voice started rising, his grip on my hand tightening. I rested my free hand on his shoulder, watching as his heavy breathing calmed down a bit.

“I was an alcoholic mess, if you have to call it that… I cleaned up, though. I ran into a friend named Shelly, she was pregnant with my child apparently, so I stayed with them. I know is not the ideal time for me to come by, but at least I’m here right?” He said calmly, his eyes narrowing on Dylan’s distraught state.

Dylan let out a bitter laugh and shook his head in disbelief, “You cheated on mom? Of course you did… I’m not even surprised at that.” He muttered under his breath. “Did you take a paternity test, at least?”

He nodded his head, again in that calm manner that I just wanted to punch him. How could he be acting so calm? “Yes, it was indeed mine.”

“That’s great news,” Dylan snapped sarcastically, glaring at his father. “And you’re right, right now might not be an ‘ideal’ time but I don’t want you here. I don’t need you here.”
