Merylin watched as Zara tried to stare at a picture of Valentine discreetly. She smiled as she watched the love-struck expression on Zara's face.

"You've been staring at that picture for an awfully long time." Merylin chuckled, as she removed her glasses.

Zara blushed in embarrassment. "I'm sorry. He just looks so happy here." Zara smiled.

Merylin's heart melted. "I know. Ever since that woman aborted his child, something inside of him died." Merylin said, fisting her hand at the thought of Leila Starling.

Zara's gaze lowered. Even though she thought the woman was horrible, it was not her place to judge at all. "Why did she do that?" Zara asked, trying to sound nonchalant but shocked as well.

"No one knows. Not even Val himself. I guess I'll never understand why he sticks with her." Merylin sighed.

"Maybe he has his own personal reasons." Zara shrugged her shoulders, trying to convince herself as well.

"I guess we'll never know. So how's your granny doing?" Merylin asked.

"I don't know, I'm going to see her later this evening. My sister and I have just been preocuppied lately." Zara sighed.

"Ah, Lara isn't it?" Merylin said, a tad distastefully.

"Yes..." Zara said, taken aback by Merylin's change of tone.

"I'm afraid that your sister has driven a wedge between Vincent and Kit's marriage." Merylin said, pressing her lips into a thin line.

"How so?" Zara asked, her eyebrows furrowing.

"Kit comes to me for everything you know? She's been telling me many things." Merylin said, frustration evident on her graceful face.

"My sister is involved?" Zara asked warily.

"I know about Justin, Zara." Merylin said abruptly.

Wednesday had always been Lara's favourite day of week. She loved it for it was peaceful and it indicated mid-week.

Clutching her son's hand, she opened the door and walked into her grandmother's hospital room. Lara gazed at the fancy looking ward in awe.

Everything was spotless. The curtains were a lovely canary yellow and there were beautiful flowers adorning every piece of furniture in the room.

Lara just wondered how Zara had been able to afford such luxury, but then again, Zara adored her grandmother. It was no doubt that Zara had gone through great lengths to make sure that her grandmother was given the best care Bulawayo had to offer.

"Took you long enough." Granny Hazel grumbled, when she acknowledged Lara.

"Sorry Gogo, we've been busy lately." Lara said, drawing two chairs.

"I can see that." Granny Hazel said, peering at the quiet boy.

"How are you feeling?" Lara asked, clutching her grandmother's frail hand.

"Oh you know the usual. My body is deteriorating from the inside and I'm waiting for the sweet release of death." Granny Hazel said casually.

Lara shuddered. "I didn't mean it like that Gogo."

"I know dear. I hope you and Zara have come to terms with my fast approaching death." Granny Hazel said, narrowing her eyes at Lara.

"Gogo, no one can ever come to terms with death." Lara said sadly.

"I suppose you're right. Where is Zara anyway?" Granny Hazel asked curiously.

"She's at work Gogo, hasn't she come to see you yet?" Lara asked, clearly surprised by her grandmother's question.
