Erin's POV
It's the night of the Opening Ceremony and Taylor made a big fuss about watching it with Union Jack bunting all over the house. She spent the whole day shopping for decorations and then covering every inch of our house with Union Jack buntings, London 2012 stickers all over the windows and stuck a huge flags out of everyone's windows.
The weeks on the run up to the Olympics was hectic for Tom. He's been training more vigorously than the British Championships. He's been attending one training camp to another all over the country. The only day he has to himself is Sunday which he spends most of it with me and his school friends. Like before he would text or call when he has the time and would stop by every Sunday.
We're still taking it slow, not really establishing our relationship just yet. Taylor is beginning to suspect that their has been a development in our relationship but she hasn't voiced it out yet.
When he stops by we just hang out by either going out for tea, go to the cinema or just accompany me to shop around in town. Almost everytime we go out, he gets stopped by people approuching him for an autograph or a photo and I always seems to be the one that they throw the camera at to take the photograph. I don't really mind and Tom would smile at me apologetically before tending to the people who approuch him.
After a while, I noticed that his fans are seperated into two groups. There are the cool ones who would stare but do not tend to approuch, instead they just look and whispher amongst themselves. And there are the slightly crazier ones who often comes bouncing up to him and maybe scream at his face. Tom does not seemed to be fazed by this, he just shrugs and carries on joking that he does gets crazy fans but he's very thankful that he does not have fans like some other people would.
Our physical relationship was the same with our emotional one. Taking it slow. The odd cuddles, and kisses are there but not around in public. Though he would hold my hand when we walk around.
"It's starting!" Taylor exclaimed as the Opening Ceremony kicked off, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I paid no real attention to it and I don't think the boys are either because I briefly saw Matt nod off. A moment later he was startled awake and pretended that he just did not fall asleep.
I tried to stifle a laugh when Matt caught my eyes. He just shrugged and yawn. Taylor on the other hand was getting far too excited as the nations are their flag bearers came in.
"Look at the Queen! She looks so bored!" Taylor laughed at the glum looking Queen.
"You'd think that she'll be a little bit more happy! She jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond!" Taylor declared making us all laugh at her enthusiasm. Even though she's very out spoken and does not think before she speaks, every one in the room are fond of her, Adam the most.
"You do know that it's fake?" Adam laughed at Taylor with arched eyebrows.
"I know that, idiot." Taylor retorted and went on to try and guess where in the world the nations come from, but she didn't get very far and gave up half way through because she was getting it all wron according to Adam who allegedly took Geography for his A Levels.
"Here we come!" Taylor exclaimed as the last nation came in before Team GB are to parade in. The crowd roared as Team GB entered the stadium. Team GB was lead bythe cyclist Sir Chris Hoy who waved the Union Jack proudly and on the second row of the atheletes was Tom who was nearest to the camera.
Taylor squealed and I couldn't help but feel proud for him. He was finally living his dream and by the pure ecstatic look on his face it was obvious that he was loving it. He waved at the camera as he walked past.
All the Team GB athletes were wearing all white with gold trimmings that shimmered when it caught the light and all atheletes were armed with either a small flag, a phone or a camera.
Eventhough, I paid no real attention to the Opening Ceremony in my opinion it was a good opening for the Games. It was very British and it told the story of Britain through very clever ways. The atmosphere in the stadium looked amazing as they cheered enthusiastically as aspects of the Opening showed the world what defined the British.
After the cauldron was lit, Taylor insisted that we should stay up a little bit longer for the interviews.
"The atmosphere in this stadium is brilliant and we managed to catch up with some athletes including the one and only Tom Daley." The interviewer said enthusiastically as the camera turned to face Tom with a smile plastered on his face and his eyes were shining with excitement.
"What do you think Tom? Did Great Britain deliver?"
"I think we did. The atmosphere in this stadium is amazing and I really do think we have delivered. It was a brilliant Opening Ceremony. Very British." He smiled.
"Very British, indeed. So Tom, how are you feeling about your event in the next few days?"
"I'm confident. I've put all my effort into training and not missing a single training session. But, diving is a sport that is a on-the-day sport. You just have to focus on your own diving and not anyone elses. It's about the mentality that the diver is in that will either get them a medal or not. It's so unpredictable, I've seen even the best of divers falter because of the pressure. Hopefully, it'll all go to plan and I wish to get a medal for Team GB." he said before waving at someone out of the camera's shot.
"Your family must be so proud of you. Are your family and friends coming down to the aquatic centre to cheer you on or are they staying in Plymouth and watch with everybody else?"
"Mum and my brothers will be coming to cheer me and Pete on. Some of my friends are coming to visit me one of the days but my girlfriend unfortunately can't make it so she'll be staying in Plymouth." he replied only to wince when he accidentally let slip that he has a girlfriend.
Taylor looked at me and squealed at the mention of Tom's girlfriend.
"Aww, I think you just broke many teenage girls' heart." The interviewer laughed and Tom just followed the interviewer's suit and laughed along light heartedly.
"Well we'll let you go Tom Daley. Good luck young man. Make us proud!"
"Thank you." Tom smiled and waved at the camera.
