The guests had finally arrived. All of Cami's aunt's uncle's and cousin's had come to celebrate her turning ten years old. It was a family that was diverse, and beautiful. A family that Camille took alot of pride in. Camille sat, looking out her window. Her birthday was in April, a time for rain and there was pleanty of it. She liked to think when it was raining. She would watch rain drops race down the glass, thinking about all the things she loved.
She loved her Daddy, and her Papa. Her little brother Enzo and her bestest friend Pip. Cami loved alot of things, but she loved her family most. She loved eating crepes before the bus came and having heart shaped macaroons in her lunch box at school. She loved wearing the pretty dresses her daddy made for her, and reading stories to her little brother.
She loved the fluent french and family dinners. Slumber parties and ice cream trips. She loved the cheerful mornings, lazy afternoons, pleasant evenings, and peaceful nights. Listening the the rain pitter patter against her window. She loved every chapter of her live, her story, where everyday brought new possibilities.
She felt a hand rest on her shoulder and she turned away from the window. Herc was standing there, a small smile on his face as her sat down beside her in the little bay window, handing her a macaroon he had snuck from the kitchen.
"Why isn't the birthday girl downstairs enjoying her party?" Herc asked.
Cami sighed. She wasn't exactly sure why she was here either but she knew she was not in a party type mood. She bit into the teal colored cookie, and continued to look out the window.
"Dad, do you ever just have one of those days?" She said.
Herc couldn't conceal his laughter after hearing those words. His ten year old daughter was attempting to ask him if had days where he just felt down, as if she had been twenty years older. He picked her up and say her down in his lap. Cami's bedroom door creeped open and Peggy stood there with a smile.
"Your Papa is all dressed up." She said, pushing the door wide open.
Laf stood in the doorway. His hair was pulled up as usual but his face was covered in a light amount of make-up. His eyes were covered in a sparkly pink shadow and were lined in a crisp black. His already long lashes were adorned with mascara and lips were painted a pretty rose color.
His dress was a nice navy blue and had had a small amount of glitter at the hem of the skirt that flowed upwards, becoming more sparse as it went up. He looked beautiful.
Herc's breath caught in his throat, while his daughter jumped out of his laugh with a huge smile. She walked around Laf, giving the dress a strong inspection. After she looked up at him, smilimg and wrapping her arms around his mid section.
"Papa you look so pretty." She smiled.
"Thank you mon cheri, go ahead and go downstairs. It's almost time for presents." Laf said, watching as Peggy lead his little girl downstairs.
Lafayette faced his husband, a face of pretend annoyance. Herc smiled and stood up, taking Lafs hands and giving his husband a twirl.
"I read the tag on the inside. You designed this dress didn't you?" Laf said.
"Of course, don't you like it?" Herc asked.
" Of course I do, but somehow I feel like you may have influenced Cami's decision for me to wear it." Laf giglled as his husband dipped him.
"So what if I did?" Herc challenged, leaning in.
"HEY HERC! I KNOW YOU'RE HUSBAND IS PRETTY BUT CAN WE OPEN GIFTS PLEASE?" Alex yelled.
There was laughter from downstairs and it was followed by familliar chatter. Laf and Herc stood up and Laf dusted off some invisible dirt from his skirt, loosening some of the glitter in the process. Herc smiled.
"You look beautiful." He said, placing a kiss on Laf's head.
