Darkness.

That was all Aurem could see. She could hear nothing, feel nothing.

She is there but she isn't.

It's like being put under anesthesia, right when you feel yourself slipping away. Aurem's mind wanders into a blur of nothingness, like fading background noise.

An endless cycle of blank. Nothing to look at, feel, hear, taste, anything. A realm of aught.

This is all interrupted when a sudden flash of light and bright hues of grey explode into reality. Like paint, scenery and particles splatter onto the dark canvas. It is otherworldly...beautiful-

But colorless. Like a black and white photo, everything is a version of silvery grey.

Aurem falls to the ground, her body materializing once again. She takes in her surroundings.

The area is quite plain. The sky is grey, dotted with fluffy white clouds, while the floor is an endless glistening mirror.

Immediately, Aurem notices an extremely large beam of light a few hundred meters away. She runs to it, but is slowed down by something pulling her back.

She gazes behind her to find a large and majestic pair of wings. They are raven black, mimicking those of a crow, expanding near a meter and a half on both sides of her.

"Am I... dead?!" She yells, an endless echo resonates around her. Nothing answers back. "Hello?!"

As her mind wander towards the beam of light, her wings start to flap. This sends her flying towards the area at unimaginable speed.

She screams as her body slams on the ground. She could, with no doubt, feel the impact. As she stands up, two shined feathers fall off of her wings like leaves in the autumn.

Aurem gazes into the light. Unexpectedly, a large hole in the ground lies in the center of the beam, surrounded by no guard rails or fence. She walks to the edge, looking down.

Her stomach immediately drops. She could see earth- the entire planet, except there are rings around it. Golden lines of symbol encircle it, they almost look like directions.

"Do a flip." Aurem suddenly hears someone behind her. Startled, she almost looses her balance.

"What?" She asks, stepping away from the edge and turning around.

A boy about the same age as her stands in front of her, except he's completely black and white. "Do a flip."

"Excuse me?" She gawks, scanning the person in front of her. "Where am I?" Aurem starts to spew out random questions, her breathing starts to accelerate. "What am I doing here, where's Ara?"

"Congratulations, you're dead." The boy looks her in the eyes, but then freezes. "Wait...you're different."

He notices Aurem's fear, the shaking posture and hyperventilating. "Calm down... it isn't that bad here."

"What do you mean? I can't be dead! Who are you? And what do you mean different?" Aurem tilts her head to the side, her voice shaking.

The colorless boy walks towards her, putting his wrist by hers.

"You still have your color, yet your wings are still tainted..."

Aurem points at him, stepping back. "Wait, are you supposed to be the grim reaper or something?"

"No, he doesn't exist." He sighs, running his hand through his hair. Aurem had stopped shaking, her breathing has slowed. "I see you're calming down, that's good..."
