"You don't understand, Amie. There's a raging archangel on the loose creating monsters nobody has a clue what they're capable of, except for straight up murdering innocent people, like you!"
The blonde crossed her arms in front of her chest. "So what now? It's the apocalypse?"
"Apocalypse, take two." Serah ran her fingers through her hair. "There used to be one in 2011 or something. I don't recall, I was too young."
Amie bit her lip. "You're a... what now?"
"Nephilim. Half human and half archangel." She sat down on her bed.
"Which one of those is your dad?"
"Neither, " Serah replied before clearing her throat. "Ahem, at least as far as I know. I don't know my dad- my human dad."
Amie pulled up her eyebrow. "Would have bet my money that the tall one was your dad." She sat down beside Serah.
Serah bit her lip. "I mean, the age would fit... And we do kinda look alike..." She shook get head. "No, it... it's just a coincidence..."
"There is no coincidence, Fairchild."
Serah chuckled. "So you wanna tell me it was no coincidence you've been watching me in class thinking I wouldn't notice?" Proudly, she watched the blonde blush.
"Shut your mouth, Serah."
"So we're in first name basis now?" Serah giggled. "You know, it's alright. We all had weird crushes."
Amie rose up. "I never had a crush on you."
"That's a shame, 'cause I surely had one on you."
Silence filled the room.
"You did?" Amie asked.
"Did I- did I say that? I don't think I said that." Serah's face heated up as she lifted herself from the bed.
"You did say that, " Amie reinforced, stepping closer, holding Serah's wrist when she tried to leave the room. "Serah Fairchild has a crush on me."
Serah tug on her wrist. "Shut up," she said and took a step backward trying to get some distance.
Amie wouldn't have any of it. "And something tells me that crush never died." They had reached the wall, Serah pinned to the wall, Amie looking down at the slightly shorter girl.
Serah looked into Amie's blue eyes and swallowed hard. It wasn't the first time they had been like that, but usually, Serah was way more scared of Amie's hurtful words. She was expecting those, but nothing happened.
Just silence, so silent she could hear their breaths. Finally, Serah found her voice. "I-..."
The door interrupted them as it opened. Sam came in. "Serah, you need to come out and-... Am I- am I interrupting anything?"
Amie scoffed. "No, not at all. How could you possibly think that?"
Serah finally freed herself from Amie's grip and took a step toward Sam. "I need to come out and what?"
Sam showed her to follow him, and she did when he left the room, out of the bunker. Serah wouldn't believe what she saw. A man, sitting inside a circle of fire, arms crossed in front of his chest. She had never seen him before, but she felt like she actually did.
The man looked like he had the same thought process. His expression stiffened, he got up from the floor.
"Serah, " he said, voice slightly cracking.
"D-dad?" Serah was already crying as she was running toward the circle. Sam held her by the shoulder.
"This could kill you, " he mumbled and put out the fire.
The next second, she felt a pair of arms around her, more tears streaming down her cheeks.
"It's okay, " she heard. A hand was brushing over her back. "I'm here now."
"You are." She took a step back, wiped her tears away and cleared her throat. She looked over her shoulder to Sam.
Sam watched them both, like he wanted something he couldn't have.
Gabriel smirked. "Come here, big boy," he said as he opened his arms to him.
