"All you had to do, was saying 'No'."
"You don't understand, Cass. She looked at me like her heart was gonna shatter if I said 'No'."
Castiel shook his head as he opened the door for Serah and Jack to get in. "If Gabriel was here-"
"He'd kill me," Sam interrupted. "He'd tear me a new one."
Castiel turned his head, looked at Serah and Jack. "Get in the car."
-
Sam parked the car near a hospital. Serah could see Adam and Samandriel in their car behind them. Castiel and Sam got out the car. When Serah opened the door to leave the car, as well, Castiel held the door in place.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Getting out of the car?"
Castiel shook his head. "You and Jack stay in the car until Sam and I are back."
Serah looked over her shoulder, Jack had already left the car. "I want to help," he simply said and closed the door.
"I might be useful," Serah said, got up and pushed Castiel aside, who sighed in response.
"Admittedly," Adam interfered, "both of them will probably do way better than me."
Castiel sighed once more. "If you get hurt, you get back to the car as soon as you can."
Sam opened the trunk of the car they arrived in, it was filled with all sorts of guns. Sam equipped himself with a few different weapons. Serah couldn't even tell they were there.
All of them went inside, Serah stayed near Adam and Samandriel."Good day," Sam said to the receptionist. "I wanted to ask if my brother has been admitted to this hospital."
Serah didn't listen to the rest of the conversation. She turned to Adam and tilted her head back to meet his eyes. "I do need to ask a question," she said and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Go ahead," Adam replied.
"Who is Dean?"
Adam looked away, his gaze wandered to Sam, then to Castiel. "Dean is Sam's elder brother, and they are my elder half-brothers."
Serah nodded lightly. "And he disappeared?" Serah figured.
"Kind of," Adam explained. "A while ago, Lucifer was making trouble. I don't wanna get into it too much, but Dean had to agree to be Michael's vessel and now he's gone because Michael took over. Long story short, we're screwed."
Samandriel tugged on Adam's sleeve, pointing to Sam who came back to them.
"He's not a patient," Sam said. "But he's been here. Visited a few people and left, but..." He showed us a phone. "They found this in a trash can. It's Dean's phone."
Serah reached for the phone and inspected it. "It's not locked," she noticed and unlocked the phone. Dean's text messages opened. A message that has not been sent popped up.
I knew you were going to track this thing, so I got rid of it in advance. We will meet again, Samuel.
~MichaelSam grabbed the phone and stuffed it into his pocket. "Can't believe it," he mumbled and walked towards the exit.
"Wait." Castiel caught up with him. "You said Michael visited a few people. Why would he do that?"
Sam shrugged. "I don't know," he admitted. "Maybe looking for vessels so he can build up an army of angels."
"Impossible," Samandriel replied. "There are not many angels left in Heaven."
"With Gabriel and Lucifer gone, there's just Michael, Samandriel, me and maybe ten angels in Heaven," Castiel added.
Sam seemed to think. "There's still Anael, and with Lucifer dead, she might help us."
Serah didn't know what Heaven was like. Ariel had been there once in a while, but that's all she knew. Then, it doomed in her.
"We should ask Ariel. The more support we get the better."
They started to slowly head towards the exit.
"I think Serah's right," Adam said. "And even if he's not gonna be the best fighter, we need all the help we can get."
"That won't help you know, anyway." A young woman was waiting for them in front of the exit, she was wearing a hospital gown, but her most prominent feature were her eyes.
Her completely white eyes.
Serah expected that Sam got to know many monsters due to his history as a hunter, as he told her, but she knew, not even Sam had seen this before.
