pidge is a 17-year-old punk kid. lance is a shy quiet nerd who doesn't like emotions until he gets closer to pidge. their school is night school but still high school. (p.s. this took me a while because the art is mine... enjoy)

pidge sat in the back of the class with her feet on the desk. the bell rang and the teacher finally walked in.

"students we have a new student today. I'd like you to meet Lance McLain."

normally pidge never gave a second thought to others in the classroom. but one look at him she was actually interested. maybe it was the fact that he looked like a complete and utter nerd... or maybe it was because she felt something in her chest.

"hi lance." the entire class chimed. except for pidge.

"pidge? why don't you greet our new friend?" the teacher said. whispers erupted from all around her. 'yeah, she never speaks' 'i thought she was mute' or 'do you think she actually talks?'

pidge looked at lance and nodded, signifying her greeting.

"Okay then... well lance why you take a seat next to pidge," the teacher said as pidge went back to looking out the window.

lance sat down and got out a notebook. he kept looking at pidge. he noticed her freckles and a tattoo on her arm. but what caught him off guard was a small half-smoked cigarette hanging out of the brim of her beanie.

she stared out the window until the bell rang. lance got up and just as she started to walk off, he grabbed her arm. she turned around and met his eyes. he reached her head and tucked the cigarette back into hiding.

"I wouldn't advise walking around with a cigarette peeking out of your hat," he whispered.

pidge nodded and walked off. he caught up and looked at her.

"where do you sit for dinner?" he asked.

she looked at him and kept walking.

"can sit with you."

pidge stopped, looked at him and gave a slight nod. she walked up to a locker and slammed her fist on it. it swung open and she pulled out a leather jacket. she put it on and shut her locker. lance followed her outside to the roof. she sat down on the ledge and looked at the sun that was held just above the horizon. lance stood next to her.

"aren't you scared of falling off?"

pidge shook her head slightly. she popped the cigarette out of her beanie and lit it. she let it hang loosely between her lips as she held the lighter close. she leaned back and rested on her hands and drew in a breath and blew smoke out. pidge sighed after she finished her drag. she flicked the bud off the roof and watched it fall.

"I like your freckles," he said.

pidge blushed and nodded.

"why don't you talk?" he finally asked.

pidge sighed and looked at him. He looked at her with intent. She dug around in her backpack and pulled out a notebook. She wrote down on it and held it up to lance.

"I hate my voice. People say I'm annoying."

"I don't think you are annoying," Lance said.
Pidge blushes and continued writing.
" then let's keep it that way. I don't want you to get annoyed with my voice." she wrote
Lance touched her shoulder and smiled.
"Fine but can I at least hear your voice once?"
Pudge looked at him and sighed then nodded.
"Okay... why do you think I'd find your voice annoying?"
Pudge hesitated but took a breath, "Everyone I used to know always said I talk too much to the point where they hated my voice... so I shut up," she said.
Lane was in awe

"I think your voice is beautiful," he said.

pidge looked at him and blushed, "r-really?"

"Yeah,"

pidge smirked and looked down, "then I guess I'll consider talking to you."

"yay.'

lance giggled and spent the rest of the day next to pidge since they shared nearly all classes. pidge wasn't sure why, but she knew he was different.
