Quick A/N: Hello world! I've been, both physically and mentally for like.. ever. But a few months ago, an old friend who I personally think of as one of my best friends, I don't know what he thinks lol, recently got back in touch with me, and we used to roleplay as our characters. We both had the idea of setting them up as a couple, but didn't really talk about it, and then it.. just happened. Ta da. Anyway, enjoy the short! (I did get his permission to use Colo, by the way)
Minnesota, in a black tank top that read 'Take my coffee and see what happens' and fuzzy blue-with-purple-and-pink-spots sleeping pants, trudged to the cafeteria, tired and weak from a lack of sleep. She'd been going on a lot of missions recently, which drained her of her usual light-heartedness. She went over to a coffee machine, pressed latte, and picked her flavor - maple pecan. As it brewed, she walked over to the food, grabbing a plate. She scooped up a small amount of eggs, two sausage links, and one, tiny pancake. She quickly threw her hair into a pony tail.
In a plain gray hoodie and black sweats, Colorado was sitting, finishing up his own breakfast. No missions for him, thank God. He hated going on missions because everyone was so serious - except Minnesota. She tended to make things fun. When the brewing machine stopped, he stood up and went to get the latte for her, being all gentleman-y.
"I hope you're not planning on drinking that," said a voice behind him. He turned slowly to see Sota, one hand in her hip, the other holding the plate, with what seemed like barely any food. A small smile played across her lips. "I'm not sure you'd like the flavor, Colo."
A small blue and green artificial intelligence fragment appeared beside her. "She's flirting."
Sota snapped, "Omicron! I am not!" The little guy disappeared with a squeak and giggle. "Sorry, Omicron likes getting into people's business'."
Colo waved it off. "Don't worry about it, c'mon, let's go sit." And they did. "Is that all you're eating?"
Sota glanced down at her plate, then back up and he slid the latte over. "Yeah?"
Worry clouded his face. "Sota, you need to eat to keep your strength up. You've been going on a bunch-"
"I know, I know. It's fine, really. I'm not hungry." She yawned, her head raising a little. Colo sighed on the inside. It was the little things like this he appreciated. Spending time with her, every one of her little habits, like the head raise, and how she would naturally giggle quietly at anything and everything she found funny. Suddenly, his eyes narrowed.
"Your eyes."
"What about them?"
They're a beautiful chocolate brown. "You have circles, and bags. Like, really bad."
She picked at her food. "Yeah, you kind of get those from no sleep." She looked at him, gaze even. As Sota studied his features, her heart made a tiny skip.
"Are you scheduled for anything today?" He asked softly, as other agents were beginning to wake up and come down.
Sota shook her head. "But I can't take a day of rest, I go out at four tomorrow morning, so I'm training to keep myself up for long periods of time. Today I'm just gonna do some training rounds against Maine and Wyoming," she explained, taking a sip of her drink. Her nose wrinkled in disgust. "Now it's cold... South, want a cold maple pecan latte?"
The other female agent came over amd grabbed it. "Damn, thanks Sota. I'm whipped." And with that she was gone, talking to York.
Colo shook his head. "No, you're not. You're gonna get some sleep."
Sota raised her eyebrows. "Not like you can stop me, buddy." A challenging smirk crossed her face.
He stood up, meeting her gaze, a glint of mischief in his eyes. Without warning, he slid across the table to her side, and then grabbed Sota by the waist and picked her up, earning a squeak of surprise from her. "Hey!"
He strode off towards the barracks portion of the MOI with Sota over his shoulder. Sota gently hit his back. "Let go of me, you nerd!" She tried to be angry, but a giggle escaped her lips. "I'm angry with you!"
"Sure you are," he chuckled. He stepped into her room and gently laid her down.
"So what now?" Sota asked, to which a simply reply of "Sleep" came from Colo.
"No!"
Colorado was serious for once. "Sota, listen." He sat down on her bed by her. He was still a little taller than her, by about a half inch, when sitting down. "You can't run yourself ragged. I won't let you, I care about you way too much to see that happen. You need to sleep."
A sigh fell from Sota. "Alright, fine. But only for a little bit."
This earned a smile from Colo. "That's my best friend. If you need anything, like a tea with chamomile and lemongrass to help induce sleep, just tell me." He stood and began to walk out.
Sota's heart leaped. Suddenly, words she thought she'd never say escaped her lips. "Will you sleep with me?"
Colorado stopped, halfway across the room, and turned, his face beginning to turn a shade of pink. "Wh-what?"
"Not like that!" she scowled. "Like.. just.. lay in bed.. with me.." Sota's voice got really quiet. "You calm me, Colorado. That's why I can't sleep. Nerves. Wondering if all these missions will get me killed, wondering if I'll get someone else.. killed.."
Colo's soft gaze rested on hers. He knew how bad it might have hurt her just to admit she's weak, at least in that sense. "It's okay," he said, going to shut the door. "I'll do it for you. But," he said playfully, "you owe me."
"Hmph, fine. Fair enough," Sota replied as Colo got into her twin sized bed, barely big to hold the two. "So how do you suppose I pay you back?"
Colo began to pull the covers over them. "I don't know, I'll think of it eventually."
"Alrighties," she replied, and turned her body to face Colo, who was on his side. She cuddled up to him. "Thank you, Colo. You're such an amazing best friend..." Then, she whispered, "I love you." And just like that, she was asleep, her breathing even.
Colo had smiled at her use of "alrighties". "You're so cute sometimes," he whispered after she fell asleep, kind of shocked by the "I love you." As a friend? As.. something more? He didn't know for her, but in his heart he knew, that he would do anything for her. He truly did love her, and was content with any sort of relationship with her, as long as she was in his life.
"I love you too," he whispered, then kissed her on the forehead. He closed his eyes, synced his breathing with hers, and drifted into a peaceful sleep.
