The festivities were over. Nurse Ruthie took Martha back to her room. Martha looked at herself in the large mirror attached to her dresser. Something about her looked very very strange. She asked nurse Ruthie to wheel her closer to the mirror. There was one brown strand of hair running thru her gray hair. She touched it with her weak feeble hands and showed it to nurse Ruthie.
"Nothing there, Martha. You may have gotten just some chocolate frosting from the birthday cake in your hair. But it's all out now."
Martha squinted her eyes and still could see the brown streak. Something strange was happening today. She could feel it in her bones.
Martha didn't realize it yet but this was just the beginning of her unbirthday birthday wish.
As she lay in her bed trying to sleep, nurse angel walked in.
"You did very good today Martha. Enjoy your sleep."
