Martha went into the living room. The Christmas tree was still there with all the ornaments the kids had handmade in school. At the top of the tree was the Christmas angel. Funny, she thought, looks just like nurse angel from the nursing home. She walked into the bedrooms everything looked the same. Her children's toys scattered throughout. She walked into the kitchen everything still looked the same. She heard yelling and laughter. She went to the picture window in the kitchen overlooking the yard. She saw her children building a snowman. There was a man with them. He turned around and waved to her. It was her husband looking as young and handsome as ever. When the children saw her in the window they waved at her and pointed to the snowman they were building. Martha stood there smiling and watching them as if in a trance.
Then she heard Nurse Ruthie pleading with her to come back.
"Dr. Watson is there anything else we can do for her."
"No Ruthie, she has been in this coma ever since the night of her birthday party. Her relatives know we are doing everything we can to make her comfortable. Please advise them that her breathing is so shallow. I don't expect her to last much longer. She looks so peaceful and has such a beautiful smile on her face."
Just then Martha went outside into the snow to help finish building the snowman. Her husband and children gathered around her.
"Mighty brave of you to come out in the back yard with all this snow" they teased her. " We were waiting for you." The children handed her a black hat to put on top of Frosty.
"I'm never going back. I can't. I won't." laughed Martha.
"Going back where?" asked her husband as he kissed her.
"It doesn't matter anymore. We have each other."
"Can we have hot chocolate?" the youngest one asked.
"Yes. Lets gets some hot chocolate and warm up" yelled her husband as the kids ran into the house.
Martha looked up into the sky watching the snow falling gently to the ground. She smiled as her husband held her hand and they both walked back into the house. Her unbirthday birthday wish had come true. She was FOREVER YOUNG.
