Chapter 14

Avas POV

  The rest of the day was a drag.  It was between sixth and seventh hour and  Reggie doing his usually flirting and me telling him that I am not interested but now I actually have a better excuse.  "I have a boyfriend Reggie."  He looked a little taken back by this but quickly recovered "That never stopped nobody." he said as he tried to get closer to me but I quickly pushed him back and it wasn't an easy push either.  He stepped back a couple of times to regain his balance "What the hell Ava?" everybody started looking our way wondering what the hell was going on.  I looked at everybody looking at us and my eyes landed back on Jughead and he was just looking at me worried.  I looked back at Reggie and he had a mix emotion of confusion and anger. 

 My mouth was open but no words were coming out because I didn't know what to do.  Jughead quickly came up to me and got in front of me.  "She has already told you Reggie, She's not interested." Jughead said and slightly pushed me out of the crowd.  Once we were out he motioned me toward some lockers so we would be out of the way.  "You alright?" he asked "Yeah i'm fine he was just getting too close." I say with a smile.  He nodded his head but didn't say anything. " Thank you Jughead." I tell him and I leave and go to the front doors and into my car.  I knew that I would be the main talking point for the rest of today and I decided that it would be best if I wasn't there.  It's just when he started getting closer to me I freaked out.  I knew I only did this because of what happened with Abel but I just have to hope that this phase and this will go away on its own. 

 When I got into my car I called Joaquin "Hello?"  he said "Hey do you want to go and get something from Pops?" I ask not really knowing if he was in school right now.  "uhh." he said with hesitant in his voice.  Please say yes I thought to myself as I was waiting in his reply.  "Sure I'm not doing anything too important." He says and I sighed in relief.  "Great see you in a few."  I say and then hanged up.  I started my car and headed over towards Pops

I was the first one there so I decided to order a cheeseburger with a side of fries and a Dr. Pepper.  I sat down at one of the booths that was by the window and got on my phone and waited for Joaquin.  I went on instagram and saw that somebody DM me.  I looked and saw that it was from Reggie. Before I could think anymore more on this Hermione set my food and drink beside me and I thanked her and she smiled and went to go clean off some tables.  I went back to the text deciding whether I should open it or just delete it but my curiosity got the better of me and I opened it. 

"Hey Ava I just wanted to say that I apologize for what happened earlier.  It was totally my fault and I had no right to treat you the way that I have been treating you."  This honestly surprised me.  I didn't think that a guy like Reggie would have actually apologized.  I texted him back apology accepted and as soon as I sent that the bell ontop of the door rang signaling that somebody walked in.  I looked up and saw Joaquin looking around the diner.   Once his eyes moved in my direction he smiled and went over to the booth and sat down across from me.  "Thanks for coming, I was worried that you were still in school." I say looking at my phone and saw that school was about to got out in about 20 minutes.  I started taking a drink of my pop as I looked back at Joaquin and he just kinda chuckled.  I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "No I wasn't at school.  I graduated a couple of years ago."  this caused me to start coughing on my pop.  

Once I was done I looked at him "Then how old are you?"  He looked at me and just kinda awkwardly smiled and put his hand behind his head you could tell he's deciding weather or not he should tell me.  "Im uh almost 22." he says not really moving from his spot and neither was I.  "You're joking right?" I asked him with a small smile praying to god he was but instead of smiling along with me he just skook his head no.  I gasp out loud and  I put my elbows on the table and put my hands on my head.  This whole time I have been thinking that he is a teenager still in highschool.  Not some man who is old enough to buy beer while I am not even to the age where I can buy cigarettes. "oh my god. oh my god" I say out loud trying not to panic. "Ava it's really not that big of a deal." he says and that caused me to look up and put my elbows back down. "What do you mean that's not a big deal?! Joaquin, you could go to jail." I say with my eyes wide.  He reaches across the table and grabs my hands. "Listen to me, nobody is going to find out.  We are going to be fine. ok?" it took me a minute to really believe what he was trying to tell me but I nodded my head.  I am almost 18 anyways I had to keep on telling myself.  "okay" I tell him quietly.  He sighs in relief and smile creeps on his face as he looks at me. "Good." he says and lets go of my hands.  I can hear Hermione walking up to us to get Joaquins order "What can I get for you?" she asks "I'll just go ahead and get what she got" he says as he points at me.  She smiles and nods and then walks back to the back. 

 Once she was out of hearing range he looks back at me with a cautious look on his face.  "Are you sure you're alright?" he asks and I nodded my head. " I just have one question and you have to be totally honest with me." I say trying to but as much seriousness in my voice as I could muster up.  "Yeah what's that?" he asks with a worried look on his face.  "What's it like to be a male cougar?" I ask trying not to laugh.  "Shut up" he says as leans over the table and grabs one of my french fries from my plate and throws one at me.  The fry hits my chest and I laugh and pick the fry from my lap and and eat it.

 "here you go." Hermione says and sets the food on the table.  Joaquin wipes the smiles off of his face as he says thanks.  As soon as she left he looks at me and smirks and then he looks down again and starts eating his cheeseburger.  I pull my plate closer to me and starts doing the same.  While we were in the middle of eating our food I hear the bell ringing and I look up and see Veronica and Kevin walking in. "Oh shit" I say as they see me and started walking over to where we were.  Joaquin follows my eyes and turns around and sees Kevin and Veronica.  "Hey is it alright if we sit here?" Veronica says while sitting down next to me.  I scoot over and so does Joaquin for Kevin.  "Veronica, Kevin meet Joaquin. Joaquin, meet Veronica and Kevin." I say to all of them  "So this must be Avas boyfriend that I have been hearing so much about." Veronica says and Joaquin chuckles at this.  My face goes red as I look down and eat one of my fries and Joaquin just continues to laugh.  I can tell he is enjoying every second of this. "Well me and Veronica just wanted to introduce ourselves to Joaquin." he says taking the hint that it was getting awkward as he and Veronica get up from the booth. "It was a pleasure meeting you." Veronica says as they finally walk away.   When they got out of Joaquins sight they turn my way and gave me the thumbs up and mouthed "he's hot." I just chuckled at them and looked back down at my food as Joaquin just started laughing at me and that caused me to look up.  "What?" I ask while smiling "Your friends on the South side and here are so different." he says and that made me laugh.  "What makes you say that?" I say jokingly and start laughing and he does too.  

Once we were almost done with our food Hermione comes up and buts both of our bills on the table.  I was about to grab mine but Joaquin hurried up and took it.  "No Joaquin I can pay for it."  I tell him and go to grab it out of his hands but he just moves his hands farther back and gets out of the booth with the two bills and pays at the front.  I sigh as I watch him take out his wallet.  I hear a ding on my phone and I look down and see that its a text from Veronica.  I open it and the text said "He is such a gentleman!" I laughed and looked up at her and she just gave me the thumbs up. I looked back down and put a thumbs up emoji as Joaquin starts walking back. I look up at him as he puts his wallet up "Thank you but you really didn't have to do that." I say as he sits back down.  "No it's my pleasure." he says
