maddie and i walked into the den where we met the other moms and our friends. nadia hugged me as soon as i walked in and i smiled. "how's the cute boy?" i mocked her which caused her to roll her eyes, "his name is johnny. and fine thank you very much." she smiled by the thought of the "love of her life."

i set my bag on the side, and took off my "aldc" sweater to reveal my sports bra. i had a matching nike leggings. i brushed my hair in a middle ponytail and walked into the studio.

after eight hours of hearing maddie this, and kalani that, i went back to the den to redo my hair and get freshened up after my private with gia. i sit down and waited for maddie to finish her private. i'm too tired from the constant comparison between me and my sister which causes me to try harder in dance. dance isn't even my thing. screw six year old me for wanting to do everything maddie did.

caught in my thoughts, i didn't notice maddie trying to wave me awake to reality. "kenzie? kenzie!" she says as she waved her hand in my face. "huh ?" i shake myself awake. "we're leaving." she says, "oh, alright." i mumbled, getting my stuff ready to go home. i swing my dance bag around my shoulder, as maddie let down her curly, blonde hair. "mom's waiting for us outside. i'll catch up." she says before i exit the studios, running through the cold parking lot.

i saw that my mom was already in the car when i opened the door of the passenger side. maddie and i have a rule because we fight over the front all the time. first to get there, gets it. "hey mom." i said, realizing my lips were chapped. after closing the door, i layed my bag on my lap. "where's maddie ?" my mom asked, looking up from her phone. "she's in the studio, she said she's coming." i dig for my chapstick and my phone. i found my lip balm in the corner of my bag applied applied it to my dry lips, and put it back into a little pocket of the bag. i realized my phone was no where in found. "oh shit, where's my phone?" i mumbled, searching my bag. "what do you mean ?" my mom said, "i- i don't know where my phone is.." i said, looking up. "uhm, i'm going to go back and look for it." i hopped out of the car, running back.

i opened the door to the den, running to my phone. "oh, thank god." i whispered. being worried for my phone, i didn't realize the sobbing cries from my sister. i looked her, siting there, her face burried in her hands. i walked closer, "maddie ?" i said. "huh?" she shot her head up. "what's- what's wrong?" i say as i sat next to her. "dad. dad, uhm, texted me. she said slowly.

my heart sank. "uhm, what did he-" i cleared my throat, "he just said hello. it was an unknown number, and i asked who it was. it was him. he told me it was him. it brought back memories of - you know. i broke down." she interrupted me. i guess she knew what i wanted to say. "hey, come on, calm down. let's go home." she nodded. i stood her up, and took her bag. i walked her to the car, placing her in the back.

i entered the passenger seat. "is everything okay?" my mom asked. i opened my open mouth to answer, but maddie interrupted me. "yeah, miss abby just, kinda got mad for some reason which made me stressed out." she said. "oh, ok." my mom started the car. i checked my phone as my mom drove out the parking lot.

"new message from an unknown number: ' hey kenz, its your dad.'"
